- Great profile, hard top convertible
- Terrible MB service, finding parts is a nightmare, rapid drop in value
I have owned a 2004 SL55 AMG for 2.5 years and, despite what looks like a beautiful car, have had nothign but problems with the car. Tires are very fragile. I've had problems with software, engine, electrical system, alignment, roll top bar, steering, compartments, etc. I had relatively minor damage that was supposed to be fixed within 2 weeks. It took over 5 months to repair! Not because of labor, but because basic parts are so hard to find (well, so claimed the certified repair shop). I ended up contacting the chairman of DaimlerChrysler, but never even got a response. Careful: price drops 40% within the first 2 years, so leasing may be a better option.
Looks like a great car - especially the hard top convertible roof. And it's a pleasure to drive, I must admit - that is, if you can keep it on the road.
