- Incredible acceleration, handling and looks.
- Trunk space with top down is really tight, but who cares!
What a great automobile! I am amazed every time I start it up - the sound just makes you want to drive on. Even with the top down the exhaust sounds great as you step through the gears. The 7 speed transmission is so smooth and fast. The intelligent downshifting in the sport mode is great - I've tried but I can't outshift it.
There are three cars buried in the SL55 - one my wife can drive sedately and enjoy without scaring herself to death, one that out performs most cars on the road, and one that screams for joy when you let it do what it is really capable of.
I drove the SLK55 and the SL55 at the AMG Challenge this year and couldn't see a bit of difference in acceleration times, but I did feel that the SLK would be better suited to the autocross and slalom than the heavier and wider SL55. If I had to drive in the Sebring 24 hour, I'd choose the SL55, but for everything else, I'd keep my SLK55. Or you could buy two for the price of one SL55.
