Purchased As Used
SLK 280 - 6 cyl. 2007
I bought my 2007 SLK 280 used with 9500 miles on it in Feb. 2011. It is an automatic with manual mode, and has stability control, power seats on both sides with memory, power steering wheel adjustment, power retractable hardtop, decent trunk space (esp. if you keep the top up), manual air, regular audio with 6 CD changer in the glove box, no phone, no nav, no ?windscarf,? no heated seats. I test drove a Maxda Miata MX5 (nice) and an RX8 (not so nice). I also drove a Porsche Boxster and Cayman. The Porsche?s are great to drive, but the rear engine noise in the driving compartment was more than I could stand. The SLK gives me nearly equal driving pleasure and more comfort - it is a great blend between performance, handling, and luxury. I previously owned a Lexus SC 300 (more luxury than performance) and a Toyota Supra (great blend).
The SLK 280 has plenty of pep, handles like it is on rails (you see this comment in other reviews and it is true), has good driver feedback, handles most bumps satisfactorily, has very good visibility, good ergonomic cockpit position (I am 6'1"), low wind noise, and eye catching appearance. I get unsolicited comments about now nice it is. While the Mazda was very nice, it won?t turn heads like the SLK and I like that! If I had some do-overs, I would like: automatic climate control, stereo with speakers behind the seats (can?t do post factory), maybe heated seats and the ?windscarf? feature behind your neck. If I could get Mercedes to improve the car, they could: put cup holders in the center console and not on the dash above the radio, improve the sound proofing between the driver?s area and the trunk and wheel wells (I added some padding), move the CD changer out of the glove box (it takes up all the room), reduce the noise on the fan unit at higher speeds, add a bit more lumbar support, add just a touch more side view mirror space, provide scratch plates on the front air dam for when you run it up on a curb (it?s low and hits a curb sooner than you think), improve the stiffness of the chassis with the top down over 70 mph. (top up it is smooth at higher speeds, but top down over 70+ creates random vibrations), enable the two rear windows to go up with the fronts while the top is down, equalize the tire sizes to enable rotation.
Should you buy this car? Absolutely! I have virtually parked my 2008 Toyota Highlander so I can drive my little red sports car. It just feels good behind the wheel. But, test drive your potential purchase thoroughly. I drove several SLKs and they did not feel the same....read morehide

Got 2007 SLK280 with AMG sport and appearance packages (actually the car is loaded with every option and is a factory order special interior and color combo that happened to be in showroom when we arrived). Car is exceptional in every way - wife tells me she constantly gets comments about its appearance and one of her coworkers got a used SLK32 after seeing hers. Car handles extremely well - was able to hold off Lotus Elise in the twisties on Highway 1 north of San Francisco and pretty much exceeds our own driving limits. The car is an absolute blast to drive and with top up you really do not know you are in a convertible, it's that well engineered and quiet. Had chance to drive SLK350 prior to our purchase and I can say there does not seem to be too much difference in real world power. Would buy this car again....read morehide

- I have two SLK they both give around an avg 26 MPG city and highway
- the seat are not too comfortable
First time I drove an SLK was in 2000. I love the car. Then a couple years later I bought one. It has been great. I have spent very little on maintains. In last four years I had it once for an extensiveness tone up. The second time was a couple days ago. Yes it is expensive to maintain a Benz but it does happen that often. Then one year ago I bought 280SLK 2006. It is fast allegiant and great performance. Besides the every 12,000 mile oil change I have take into to dealer for deforest reset. It gives me around 32 MPG on the highway and around 222 in the city. A great car I love it...read morehide

- Very sporty looks, covertable top works well, quiet, good acceleration
- automatic transmission is sloppy & slow shifting.
This car draws a lot of looks. It isnt nearly as fast as my old Corvette but the convertible top makes up for that. The automatic transmission needs work. I couldnt find a 6 speed anywhere in the state.

- Excellent Handeling, Great hard top, Good Excelleration
- Interior noise, fuel economy, Shift points
I love the car but it seems like the car is too noisy for its price tag. I love the hard top and the handeling since its German it is by far the best. The sleek look of the car is a head turner but at $48000 I feel it should have a little more power. The car is really fun to drive especially with the top down. The heating and Air conditioning controls are hard to get use to and the defroster works great but blows out the front ducts as well which at times is annoying. Overall the SLK is by far the nicest Benz I have owened and will more than likely upgrade for the next time I buy one....read morehide

- Retractable hardtop, fun to drive
- Cupholders (better than a BMW, but still not good)
I have had this car for a month. It has been a true joy to own and drive. Sporty, reasonable fuel economy, comfortable for the size and type of car. I would buy it again!

- Great fuel economy. I can drive at speeds that exceed the word FUN and still have fuel left.
- I don't like the location of the cup holders and adjusting the driver seat is a work of science. .
This car is the best in its class for a fun ride and great looks. Want to get noticed? Drive this baby! This is my third Benz, but my first convertible and I am overwhelmed at how much I love it.
I would do this all over again and will in three years. Keep it up Mercedes! I love this car! A real head turner!...read morehide
