Disappointed

by Daphne from Dallas, TX (5/06/08)
Pros:The BIG Star on the Grill!
Cons:Spent 42K for a car with too many plastic parts;

What a disappointment! I waited several months for my Black on Black C-350 to arrive only to find out that MB trimmed it out much more inferior to my previous cars: Infinity and Acura...which by the way, cost about 10K less! It's a good looking car at a distance, but as an owner I couldn't believe MB uses plastic door locks (they even did this on the 150K SLR! I thought that paying for the STAR meant quality craftsmanship and an automobile that would last years beyond it's competitor. The "Autobahn Quality" wipers are a complete farce. Disappointing.......

It's better than last generation; still a laggard

by Thomas G. from West New York (4/28/08)
Pros:better than last model, decent ride quality
Cons:fuel comsumption STINKS, cheaply made interior, trany slips when you need power, reliability=zero

When I first got this car I test drove the 350 Sport and the 300 Luxury. I'm not a lead foot driver and the ride in the sport was very rough so I opted for the smaller engine with the softer suspension. My short 20 minute test drive was not long enough to know that I should have gotten the Sport or no C class at all.

My sister who works for the north american MB headquarters in New Jersey was able to get me a super deal- almost half the MSRP. Because of this I have owned already 3 Mercedes, a ML, last gen C class and a 2002 E class. I only keep them 2 years at most because they start to become problematic after 20k miles or 2 years. This new C class shows everything is still the same at Mercedes.

Interior plastics are very cheap for a car of this class and name but you can't go by name these days. A Cheverolet interior is now better than Mercedes. The touch and feel is very cheap.

The ride is better than the last gen model but not what I want or expected. Fuel consumption for an engine this size/power stinks. I almost never see the EPA ratings. The best I get in the city is 14 maybe 15 if I drive very slow and careful. But on the highway you constantly need to step on the throttle to keep up with traffic. Yes it drives smooth and quiet but the engine gets raspy above 4500 RPM's. The transmission is also a problem area- with 11k miles it had to be replaced. Even the new one is never so smart, always shifting when you least expect it.

Overall, Mercedes gets a 'C-' for the 'C' class. I would not call it a total failure. The looks are slick and modern and its definitely better than all last generation C classes to date. But then again that doesn't say much. I'll be looking to trade this in early and get another brand like Lexus or Infiniti or Cadillac.

Great Entry level benz

by Wayne Costello from Long Island, New York (4/21/08)
Pros:Easy to use navigation system, Voice commands work really well, smooth ride. good mileage.
Cons:Steering wheel and ac control knobs feel cheap.

Coming out of a clk500 i expected the performance to be lacking. however, the ride is much more comfortable, 28mpg on the highway. Great styling. The multimedia package is wonderful.. very easy to use.

Mercedes has another winner!

by Loren Hays from Beaumont, California (4/17/08)
Pros:Smooth, refined feel. Quiet and very responsive.
Cons:Steering wheel controls can be confusing.

A wonderful improvement over previous models. Spacious cabin feeling. Excellent fit and finish overall. 7 speed transmission works through the gears effortlessly.

Rewards you everytime you dirve it.

by Joe Dale Thomas from Bedford, TX (4/14/08)
Pros:Fit, finish, and fine touches of a much more expensive upscale Benz.
Cons:Miss the memory seat option, but with all else it has, I can live without it.

I chose the C 300 Luxury version this time for ride and comfort. I took the P2 and Multimedia packages and do not regret the cost one minute for what they give back to me. I added AMG 5-spoke wheels and high performance tires for a very fine ride and handleing pack. Added chrome door incerts & spoiler to finish it off as an impressive car (and one I'll keep). Many complements.

Beautiful interior and exterior lighting. Cornering fog lamps are a plus that I wanted too. More room in this C Class than in the last 4 I've had for sure. Absolutley everyone has been impressed with this car and borrowed the Mercedes brochure to read.

Fine touches throughout. The only reason for an E Class would be interior room that I can see.

The name says little. Father of 2 reviews his C350

by Matthew L. from Demarest, New Jersey (4/09/08)
Pros:Good interior layout; decent interior space; smooth on unbroken highway; prestige without the price
Cons:Horrific fuel economy; various small quality issues; transmission hiccups; questionable reliability

I picked up an early Xmas present for my wife last October but unfortunately she doesn't like the car as much as I thought she would so we swapped cars- she takes my Lincoln MKX and I take the Mercedes.

We both like the way it looks- classy and substaintial looking especially in black over black. The interior is well thought out but we don't like the navigation controls which are a headache to operate so we gave it 4 out of 5 stars.

The interior space is very good and the seats are comfortable and supportive but quality is lacking. We both don't like the quality of some materials which are very cheap and plasticy. By comparision my teenage son's Ford Focus has better quality materials- no joke. The glovebox is one example- it does not close fully and is uneven.

It drives smooth on the highway but sound from the suspension permeates the cabin on broken surfaces a lot more than we like. Ride quality around town is only ok. The engine is smooth but it drinks a ton of oil and the dealer said they don't know why these engines are burning so much oil. The transmission is a problem area. Some shifts are smooth and some are harsh. It never shifts when you expect it. The dealer reprogrammed something and it helped for about a week. Then the transmission would not shift from park to drive and the module was replaced due to faulty wiring but the harsh shifts still occur. Also we average only 17.2 MPG which is very poor for a V6 mid-size car. Our Lincoln MKX gets 19.8 and it is a SUV with all wheel drive.

The sunroof started to leak in the car wash. We made sure it was closed 100% but it still would drop and few drops from time to time- not a river, but a few drops. Nonetheless, a sunroof should never leak period. It was replaced per our request. So far ok.

The rear suspension was tightened by dealer on a regular check-up. Dealer said they need to redesign suspension system. Also on the same day, the engine control unit was replaced due to faulty wiring. The dash lighting was checked for a short- dealer found a burned circuit relay and it was replaced a week later.

We have just over 8000 miles.

This is not what we expected from a Mercedes. This is our first Mercedes and our last Mercedes as we are not satisfied with the vehicle. The dealership is very good and they go out of their way to appease us. Too bad because we bought a CAR and not a CUSTOMER SERVICE PLAN- we would rather have a good reliable car with a poor dealership experience than a poor unreliable car and an excellent dealership experience. Good Luck if you choose to buy a Mercedes for the name!

Ok- make time for MANY dealer stops!

by Aminaei from Los Angeles, CA (4/08/08)
Pros:Style, Price, Standard Features,
Cons:Cheap Interior! Road noise - little things that go wrong.

I leased this car on 2/17/08. The car is great but many things have gone wrong with it already. I keep getting this rattling noise from the driver side wheel. Dealer said its normal.. NORMAL? its annoying. My check engine light has been on for 2 weeks now. I really don

++++car++++

by Rob from Mount Laruel, NJ (4/06/08)
Pros:Best car I have ever owned.
Cons:split seats standard, ipod intergration kit standard, options should be sold sepertaly

I bought my car 10/15-07, Mars Red Sport modle 6 speed. Love it.....with panaormic roof and package 1, However i would have liked the upgraded stereo system but you had to buy the multi media package and i did'nt want the nav system. that was the only thing that sucks. MB need to sell ther options on ther own and not in package deals...

Money well spent for an awesome car

by Nick from California (3/31/08)
Pros:Looks/design, name, std features, price, technology
Cons:Handling, performance

First MB and was pretty impressed by the standard features and technology that came with the car. My other option was the Bmw 328 sedan. Although the performance and ride was alot more sporty in the BMW, the Merc offers a pretty sporty and comfortable ride. Plus the standard features, ie bluetooth & power/heated seats, are endless when compared to BMW's standard features (if you want more options the total would've been significantly higher than Merc).

If you want a sporty car go with BMW. If you want a little bit of sport, luxury, and comfort go with Merc.

For the price you pay, you get alot of car.

Great car but won't match BMW 335i in performance

by Andrew from Schaumburg, IL (3/31/08)
Pros:Good look, smooth & comfortable ride, 7-speed auto transmission
Cons:Too much road noise for its class, not as engaging as BMW's 3-series, interior feels cheap

Looks great, feels bigger than it's actual size, smooth V-6, great auto transmission, smooth ride. Great price, lots of features included as standard (pay $$ more in BMW 3-series)

Road noise is intrusive for a class of this class, interior & control buttons look and feel cheap. Handling and performance not up to it's BMW rival.

Could be a perfect car if you're not a driving enthusiast. Otherwise, get a BMW 335i (for $ more).
