- plenty of room, body on frame construction, excellent mpg. unbelieveable value for the money
- power windows are a problem
I have bought 4 of them new. I purchased a 1996, 2001, 2005 and 2006. Each time I paid less than the time before and got the same or better automobile. I get 26 mpg on the highway. This is the perfect automobile for me. I view an automobile as an appliance and this one does all it should with class. The only problem was a heater core on the 1996 and the power window cables, 2 on the 96 and one, (so far) on the 2001. Other than that you can't ask for more for $16,000 after manufacturer rebates. Try to match this with a Camry. I plan on getting rid of the 2006 at 300,000 miles. Hope they still make then in 2008....read morehide

- Large six passenger sedan large trunk
- Poor interior fit and finish, rattles
Dealership promised first five free oil changes after purchase and then retracted the written offer. You either honor your word or you don't. A/C blower control failed at 50,000 miles and dealer quoted $1200.00 to repair, I repaired for $60.00. Idle Air Control failed at 60,000 miles, dealer quoted $350.00 to repair, I replaced for $65.00. The transmission failed at 82,000 miles, dealer quoted $3500.00 to repair, I had an independent shop reapair the transmission for $1500.00. The engine has always used about a half quart of oil from the first oil change until the car was totaled in a recent accident. The air bags did not deploy in the accident that totaled the car on 091906. Dealer support, trust and integrity has been poor to non existent in my case. I have been a Ford Mercury customer for 40 years but I never buy another Ford product....read morehide

- Enough room for everyone and everything, ride in comfort and style
After three Lincoln town cars I decided I did not need the hassle with the air suspension anymore. Bought a 2000 Mercury Marquis LS, equipped with everything - but no air suspension. This car has been wonderful, trouble-free, it is ready to go when I am. I love the climate control - it has to be the coldest interior of any car in all of Texas. The transmission is flawless, handling and ride outstanding. And when I am on the Interstate, boy do I love the power and passing gear! I am close to 80,000 miles but I know it will last another two or three years. And then I am buying one just like it! I wish Mercury would make them forever! And I have not even mentioned the great buy it is, and how sorry I feel for other owners of foreign cars, they don't know what they are missing....read morehide

- Above average fuel economy for the size, you could almost live in the trunk
America needs to wake up. Japan has NOTHING to compare to this car. The size is perfect for 6 full sized adults. Economy is excellent for a car this size. You can put everything in the trunk and still have room left over. My 2002 LS is my 3rd Grand Marquis. It has close to 225,000 miles and will probably be good for 300.000 as my last 2 were...read morehide
