- Good fuel,more legroom
- have't found one
I just bought this car on 6/28/2005. I love it ! At first the mpg was low, but now after breaking it in after 5500 miles I am up to 24 mpg. Which is great ! I got the real red one and I got the black/silver interior. Just my kind of colors . The legroom is amazing! Even putting down the backseats is no problem at all . As added feature I do like my MP3 Player in this car . I am amazed how quikly compforable I was driving this car !...read morehide

- Big, roomy, handles well, surprising gas mileage.
- Cloth seating
Have owned it 1 1/2 months and LOVE it. Large amount of room for my family of five with plenty of extra space in the rear. I'd traded in a small foreign car and will never go back. This Mercury is one real pleasure to own and drive. Just finished a weekend trip where I did about 475 miles of driving. Very surprised to learn I got 29.7 mpg on this 'all highway' trip (4 cyl eng) -- Much better than I expected. Only problem I've had is a slight grease stain on the light colored cloth seating. Stain was totally my fault but removing it has been a chore as yet unaccomplished. The car is GREAT and I highly recommend it !...read morehide

- Looks, plenty of standard features, peppy 4 cyl engine.
- Convenience pgk should have privacy glass and side air bags standard.
We bought this SUV after careful consideration and investigation online. My wife and I weren't really in the market for a new car right at this moment since my '03 Grand Am was in very good condition, but with the employee discounts Ford was offering, this seemed as good of a time as any. I've only owned my Mariner for a few days but I can tell you this is one nice truck. Not only is it probably the best looking SUV in it's class for the money, but it also comes loaded with a nice list of available standard features. We opted for the 4 cylinder as that was the model that put our monthly payments where we needed them to be. I have to say that I thought the 153 HP four cylinder wasn't going to be strong enough but it seems to be fine for everyday driving. It gets up to 65 mph with no problem on the highway with only myself and my wife in the front seats. I wonder however how the four cylinder Duratec would fare with four passengers and luggage. I've read online that you can pop in an aftermarket K&N air filter ($40 online) that will give you an additional 15 horses. This is probably well worth the money. Just as a side note, the Saturn VUE only comes standard with 143HP so guess you could say the extra 10HP is a gift. The inside is nicely laid out and looks like it belongs in a much more expensive SUV. Controls are simple, placed logically and are also of higher grade plastics. Everyone that has seen our Mariner loves it inside and out and my parents are acutally considering buying one of their own as they are looking to replace their 2001 Chevy Venture mini-van. I would say that if you're looking for a nice riding, roomy SUV for under 20 grand with plenty of standard options, then the Mariner is the way to go....read morehide

- Excellent fuel economy, classy looks, nice features for base model
- narrow front seats
I am impressed with this vehicle. Ford Motor was actually not on my radar until I started researching this auto. It has turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Excellent fuel economy with 4 cylinder, FWD. Averaging around 24 MPG. Well equipped for base vehicle (nice CD sound system, PWR windows, mirrors, locks, keyless entry). I love the exterior appearance, which makes this one of the classiest SUV's on the road. Excellent value for the money, especially with rebates and employee pricing. Much nicer than a comparably equipped Ford Escape, for about the same amount of money. Looked at the Chevy Equinox, but did not like the Chinese engine and plain-jane design. A nice benefit is that you don't see many Mariner's on the road compared to all of the other SUV's out there. Ford (Mercury) has done an excellent job with this vehicle, design, engineering, fit & finish. etc. This car is put together well, with no apparent factory defect issues. The only issue that I have is the seats are a bit narrow for a big framed person. They are quite supportive though. (To be expected in a smaller vehicle.) I recomend a test drive for anyone looking for a nice, small utility vehicle....read morehide

- Excellent Fuel Mileage and Interior Comfort
- Canoot find any.
Our original intent was to purchase a higher end mid-sized SUV but when we happened upon our Mercury Mariner we found an extreme deal. The Mariner we bought is a four cylinder base model which has all the amenities of a much more expensive model. At 153 horsepower with the standard 4-speed automatic transmission with overdrive this is one peppy SUV. (For those of us who even want more pep for 40 bucks you can buy a pop in K&N Air Filter which now gives you an additional 15 horsepower boosting it to 168 ponies.) The styling, price, fuel efficency 26-30 miles per gallon and overall amenities makes this one very cool, affordable and stylish looking SUV in these high-priced gas times. It meets the cool rule....read morehide
