- reliable workhorse, peppy 6, high clearance
- goofey controls, nothing luxurious about it
Purchased As Used
Nothing fancy but a good little workhorse. Handles bad roads with ease. Fast response engine. Love it.

- Excellent performance, excellent ride for an suv...excellent construction
Best auto I have ever bought new....Mercury deserves a bit hug from me. Very solid and reliable ride, excellent handling, beautiful paintjob.

- Great gas mileage, sharp looking inside, and out, very classy ride!
- no navigational system, stereo controls not on steering wheel
I've had my Mariner about 2 months now, and it's a great car. If you're looking for a smaller SUV that is loaded with luxury, style, and class this is your vehicle!

- Everything - the two-tone leather is awesome, sound great, good finish and comfort.
- The cruise control buttons on steering wheel are not lit - can't see at night
Traded in my 96 mark VIII - gonna miss the power, won't miss putting premium fuel in it. When looking for a new vehicle, I need something that was easy to get in and out of (bad knees), was comfortable, and had some creature comforts.
Was looking at Ford Escape Limited, but found that I like the looks of the Mercury better. Plus when you option in all out, the Mercury was actually less - go figure. I like the fact that the bumpers were color matched to the paint, I like the grill better, and the interior trim is nothing short of elegant - I was really suprised. The two-tone leather really stands out.
I got leather, convenience package (auto-dim mirror, auto on/off headlights, etc.), upgraded to 6CD changer, and got side impact bags/curtains.
The conviences are great, the sound system is very good - not quite as good as the JBL system in the Mark, but quite good.
The V6 has plenty of power and is smooth as silk. The front wheel drive will take a little getting used to - no big deal. The mileage is a little low right now - avg about 20, but most of my driving is stop-and-go. I expect that to get better as the engine breaks in - and I start doing a more highway driving.
With all of the rebates and incentives, it really makes sense to look at this vehicle. It was price at $22,400.
All-in-all, this is a great vehicle for the money. The only negative in the entire buying process was to find a vehicle that had the side air bags that did not have a bunch of other unwanted options installed. Once that was done - the deal went as smooth as silk....read morehide
