It is interesting to see that all these positive reviews for the 2008 Mercury Mariner were written in the spring of 2007 when it first hit the market and when I bought mine. I wonder if they still feel as positive about their vehicle choice.
For the first two years of ownership, I had no problems with this car. As a matter of fact I loved it. However, as 2009 progressed so did the problems with the lemony gem. In April, the hatch-back window blew out while it was parked in front of my garage. A month later, the aluminum tubing feeding into the condensing unit cracked. If I did not notice the transmission fluid leaking onto my garage floor and immediatley bring it to the dealership, I would have likely ruined my transmission (the tubing and condsing unit) are all one part. During my repair visit to the dealership I was informed that this was not the first time they had to replace the condensing unit of a 2008 Mariner, but unfortunatley FoMoCo has yet to issue a recall (still waiting). The final issue began around the same time as the others and has to do with the black "wrap" on the stainless molding between the front and rear doors. the wrap is peeling off and it is real bad on the passenger side and just begining on the driver side and since it is not paint/body per se it is not covered by warranty.. Excellent! Conclusion: since FoMoCo made this car out of crap parts, I have to eat.....(jk..I'll keep this PG).
Folks, this is a car that is stored in a garage and has mostly highway miles on it. Also, for the record, I am not a Ford basher, our other car is a 2001 Lincoln Navigator, which we've owned for a long time with virtually no issues and we love it. I just want to make sure that perspective car buyers think twice before buying this vehicle because two years into ownership is too soon to have these kind of issues with a car and I want to spare you my pain.
