I was looking to get a Nissan Altima, but there are so many of them on the road that I decided to shop around for a different mid-size sedan and discovered the Mercury Milan.
I bought the 2007 Milan I-4 Premier a couple of weeks ago, and for what I paid (I really got a good deal) I have reason to believe that within the price range, there is nothing that compares out there.
I am Italian (from the Milan area ironically), so I got the 5-speed manual transmission model and I can't tell you how much I love to shift gear with this car. It's just like cutting butter with a hot knife. Smooth and easy.
I am still breaking in the engine, so I really don't know yet the real mileage per gallon, but I am hoping to achieve at least 27/28 MPG mixed; city and highway driving.
My neighbors and friends congratulates a lot, and say that the car looks like a luxury. They are totally unaware of the Milan. In their heads, when it comes to mid-size cars, there is only Nissans, Hondas, Mazdas and Toyotas apparently. U.S.A. produces great cars too !!
The overall driving is so smooth and enjoyable. Great handling. Good brakes. Great leather appointed seating, overall comfort, commands on steering wheel, passenger and trunk space, electronic climate control and 6-spkrs sound system with a very cool in-glass antenna. Finely designed internally, love it. Lots of fun.
Never had a Mercury before, so I am crossing my fingers in regards to power train/engines reliability and durability. I mean the big things. Will find out in the future.
However, it came with a 3-yrs/36,000mi bumber-to-bumber, 5-yrs/100,000mi power train warranty and 5 yrs of free roadside assistance. So, I should be OK for a while.
As of now, even if it might be too early to say, I am very pleased and satisfied with this car.
Can't believe I don't get to see many Milans out there.
