I have owned 2 mountaineers. I never thought I would like SUV's and bought a Mountaineer when I decided to move to NY upstate from FL. Not to mention that I love Fords-owned a Marquis and a several Lincolns. I have gotten through some awful storms. Handles great and no problems parallel parking. Very comfortable inside with all the extras and tough enough to fill up with landscape goods, furniture or luggage. My friends love driving it also! It looks great, USA made. I am really sad that they are retiring Mercury. I believed I would own Mountaineers for a long long time....read morehide

It was sad to see my 1997 Mountaineer go but I was happy to drive of the lot with a new 2007 Mountaineer. I buy cars that I know will last me for 5 plus years with little or no problems. Originally a Jeep Cherokee fan and was unable to except the fact Cherokee was no longer in production so I looked around for other options. I was happy with my 97 Mountaineer and gave Mercury a shot.
I bought right at the end of the production year and got a steal on a left over. I purchased my new 2007 Mountaineer in January of 08. If you can find a car you like you can save yourself thousands of dollars.
Now for the car. I really liked the body of my 1997 the 2007 was nothing like it but still nice. I guess I like the fact that my 1997 was made mostly of medal and the 2007 at first felt plastic and cheep. In my searches I discovered that is just how cars are built now. The interior of my 2007 is leather but I felt it showed signs of creasing and it looks old way to early. But then again I am very picky. The rear seats have headrests that when put up really block the rear windows. You will have to drive the car to know what I am talking about. Put the headrests up and try to back up. How annoying. My old 97 had a nice option that is no longer on the car. In the 97 you can put the key in the driver?s side door and turn the key twice and will unlock all the doors. All the 07 options are great. I love the heated front window and the side steps. When they are up it really makes the car look sharp. So far this car has been dependable and I hope Mercury will make me a loyal customer....read morehide
