- good fuel economy, decent trunk space, manual available, fun to drive
- fuel mileage fluctuates wildly, incomplete instrument panel, people hate it
Purchased As New
This car is a good choice for those who find a base MINI too small. The third door is very handy and is just like the ones found on pickups. You have to open the front door to open the back so kids won't be able to get out. The performance is acceptable. I just wish a diesel was available. Gas mileage varies wildly. One week I'll average 32, the next week 36, then 32 again. Still, it'll go almost 100 miles farther than my previous car with three FEWER gallons. The 6-speed manual is very easy to learn. The only downside is people treat you badly because the fatsos in their SUVs can't stand sharing the road with one of the smallest production wagons on the road today. One even hit my car on purpose and I found on message boards that this does happen more often with this brand than most others. I'd still recommend it to someone who wants something different in life and is sick of the same old plain-Jane car. The only downside is that I'm worried about the incomplete instrument panel. It lacks info on the engine temperature and the battery. I don't know why BMW/MINI don't find that important information. My last car had to have a faulty battery replaced. The one before that: the cooling system failed completely and MINI engines run very hot despite their small size. This is due to the high compression ratios, mine is almost 30% higher compression than my previous car so watch out for the coolant level.
