2013 MINI Cooper Countryman

- Nice ride and fun to drive. All 4 is a great addition. Roomy.
Purchased As Used
I moved up to this from a Cooper S convertible and love it. It is as fun to drive as the regular Mini and provides more space. It's hard to believe they created as much room as they have with relatively minor dimension changes (1.5 ft longer, 7 in wider...).

- Fun car to drive, peppy, good handling, good fuel economy
- Interior definitely leaves a little to be desired
Purchased As New
I bought a Cooper Countryman S (FWD) with a stick shift. Didn't get too many options as they are expensive and quickly adds up and sometime I wish I had gotten the climate control option. To get a bench seat in the rear that's an option!! The car is peppy, fun to drive and has a good pickup from start. I had the picture always of Matt Daemon in Bourne Identity driving in the streets of Paris and pickup of the car definitely justifies that reputation. The extra boost of turbocharger in the S comes in handy. It's surprising for a small car it offers six front drive gear positions and with an extremely smooth first couple of gears (if you're driving a manual this is where rubber meets the road). Definitely BMW has maintained the pedigree of a good engine MINI is famous for.
Fuel consumption is very good. I fill up only once in 5-7 days. For a MINI it is surprisingly spacious and four of us fit quite well and we have made short overnight trips of a couple of hundred miles easily. Trunk is spacious to hold a couple of suitcases. It comes with 10 or 12 air bags so don't be fooled - it's supposed to have a good reputation in collisions.
Given that said - the interior feels cheap and plasticky until and unless you get the John Cooper works edition. I did get an extra three years warranty which I hope pays off in the long run. At the end of the day - I was tired of looking at Accords or Camry - I remember the days when Honda used to make fun cars and now they make bland 'boats'!! So I decided to get something different and get a MINI. Actually if Ford offered a manual option on the Fusion probably would have looked at it also. I will login a couple of years from now and write an update....read morehide
