2005 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder

- Sporty, I get 27MPG on freeway, fun to drive, 5 yr warranty, 10 yr drive train
- back seat is not leather, stereo doesn't play MP3's
OK, this is a real review. I cannot say I have a 2005 that I drove last winter (the 05 came out Spring 2005).
I actually just bought a 2004 off the lot. I was looking for a used one but with a 5 year bumper to bumper and 10 year drive train warranty, I decided to go new.
Some reviews say it does not handle well. I suppose if you are a hot rod lover, you might agree. It goes around corners faster than I want to! And it has an incredible smoot ride. At 80MPH I can crank up the stereo loud enough to drown out the small amount of noise that does come in at that speed. My son said it is quieter with the top down than his sedan is with just the windows down.
I get lots of comments from people even on the road - like "sweet car".
I get 27MPG average. About 80% of my driving is on the freeway going 65-70 (it is real hard to keep it under 70)
I looked at lots of convertibles before buying the Eclipse Spyder. This car fits me like a glove. And it is a VERY smooth ride (much better than the mustang or Mini Cooper which I also test drove).
Love the car...read morehide

- Excellant exterior design, good fuel economy for sports car
- Backseat is WAY too small, seats are uncomfortable, poor options and upgrades, ride is not the best
I have been looking to trade my Jeep Limited for a sports car. I test drove one of the Spyder GTS's and have to say that it is not a comfortable ride. The car has power but not that great, price is high for such low standards in these cars, the competition blows this car away in every way. The backseat might as well not exist because no one wants to sit there. The seats are uncomfortable and no matter what adjustments I made I could not get comfortable in this car. Test drive with the top up as well as down because you have to use all mirrors to safely drive this car with the top up. To get any kind of luxury that has become standard on most cars, you must get the GTS and still do without many options like GPS, Information center, heated mirrors, auto dimming and more. This car is also hard to find, probably because they do not sell that well, and that forces some to settle for a less than car. I have since decided on purchasing the Mustang GT convert. instead. Better car, a lot more power, and for less money than the Spyder....read morehide

- Great fuel economy for the power this car provides.
- Back seat is uncomfortable but who cares? I don't sit there!
I absolutely LOVE my Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GTS. It handles very well on the road, great braking system, excellent power, solid ride. I chose this car because of it's great look, and the fact that it has front wheel drive. I live in Cleveland, Ohio where it snows from November through May and this car handles very well on snowy roads. The trunk and back seat are small but if you need to haul kids or lots of packages.....buy a van. BUT if you want a fun, sporty, hot looking, excellent performing and handling car, this car is superior value for the money....read morehide

- GT gets excellent fuel economy and great performance
- Needs a telescoping steering wheel.
I live at Ft. Drum NY. We get a lot of snow and I will usually be in the negative nubers in the winter. When it is -40 my car will start when eveyone else is trying to get a ride in to work.
When we get snow, the traction control and ABS do the job and I have never gotten stuck. The Goodyear GT-A tires are awesome and I strongly recomend staying with those tires with this car. It handles great. I drive mine pretty rough and I can really dig into turns with no problem. The car is very stable at speeds over 100mph and it is loads of fun. It has just enough kick to keep you interested but you are not going to smoke a porshe or STi.
The stereo is the best stock stereo that I have ever heard. I love this car.
HOWEVER.....The front seat can cramp you up if you plan on a long road trip. I was rear ended a few months ago in my car and It took no damage. no scratches nothing..swear to God. Two garages checked it out. however ...Don't use the back support built into the front seat. I took a pretty good hit in the lower back because of it. And don't plan on putting people in your back seat..... that is just another storage area....it looks like seat but don't be fooled this is a 2 seater.
Oh yeah...I get about 350-400 miles on a tank of gas on a road trip and about 21-15 mpg in town.
Great car, great price....read morehide

- GREAT FUEL ECONOMY(I managed 330miles on a tank!) Smooth ride, Superb sound system, Awesome Styling
- The only thing i can complain of is the lack of boot space, well its a CONVERTIBLE
DEFINATELY THE BEST BARGAIN IN ITS CLASS! Where else can u find another convertible costing less than 30k in its class???
