The electric vehicle market is not the overly crowded circus as say, the CUV or midsize sedan segments are, but the competition is increasing. That being said, Mitsubishi's offering, the i, may not be up to snuff to run with the big boys. Based on a popular traditional gasoline powered minicar in Japan, the i makes its way to the US with a 66 horsepower, 145 lb-ft torque electric motor above the rear axle powering the rear wheels. Connected to a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery pack Mitsu's EV is rated at 62 miles to a charge and earns an EPA rated 112 MPGe, or Miles Per Gallon equivalent. The Nissan Leaf by comparison is rated at 106 MPGe, but manages a 73-mile range thanks to its more generous battery pack. The current king of the electric pack, the Tesla S Signature manages a 265-mile range, and while that car costs three times more than the i, the Tesla is ten times the car. The egg-shaped i offers a sparse interior with thin, unsupportive seats and lacks any kind of luxury for its $29,125 starting point. See more... See Less
