Stylish & fun to drive SUV with tech gadets galore

by Chase from TX (3/26/08)
Pros:Smooth ride & handling, great fuel economy, paddle shifters, tailgate, hands free keys, blue tooth
Cons:None at this point

This little SUV rocks! Where do I begin?? My favorite is the 30gig hard-drive navigation system that downloads every cd to it's hard-drive...or the fact that you can watch a dvd movie on the navi screen while in park. AMAZING surround sound with the 650watt rockford fosgate stereo system!! The tailgate has also been a BIG hit with my wife...the ease of loading an unloading groceries, gardening supplies or even a convenient place to sit while watching the kids soccer games. The FAST key and bluetooth phone system have also defined the words "hands free".... they definitely make things very user friendly.

excellent.

by Jorge from Mexico City, Mexico (3/22/08)
Pros:Excellent handling, good acceleration, excellent sound system, over all a good choice.
Cons:too much plastic in int., tends to get scratched

Its now been a year with my Outie, and so far, excellent; got it to go up to 197kms per hr on highway, and still good control; equipment is awsome, nice sound sys.

Good handling in curves, still with heavy load, good accel.

Nice economy on automatic mode; on padel shifter lees econ.

If I had to buy another vehicle now, it would defenetly be a Mitsu Outie.

Happy Customer.

Great Economical SUV

by Jill D from Keller,TX (3/09/08)
Pros:Lots of Room, Smooth Quiet Ride, Great Value for the Money
Cons:None yet

I love my car. This was the Best Value on the Market. I compared the Nissan Rouge and Mazda CX7 and could not be more Impressed with my car. You have to test drive one to believe it!

I love my Outlander

by Tim from LA (3/01/08)
Pros:Comfort for a tall guy, good mpg for class, nice features, (read)
Cons:Some blindspots, have to get out to get coins that fall between seats, (read)

I researche room side to side, whereas the Outlander has no comfort problems whatsoever ). My trim is the ES 2WD with a comfort package (which makes it almost the same as a LS without V6: same wheels, roof rails, mp3 plug, leather steering wheel) silver with black interior. While I did test drive the V6 LS model, and it does have more "umph" to it, the 4-cyl is good enough, plus it is more economical, and I honestly haven't had any problems accelerating up hills or anything.

Likes:
-the tailgate
-mp3 cd player(and mp3 jack, but I don't have a mp3 player, so not in use yet)
-a couple power outlets in the front, so I can easily plug in my cell phone
-lots of cupholders(one right next to steering wheel that pops out and I thought I would hate, but I love it and use it extensively...though it might get in the way entering or exiting)
-several places to put stuff in the front(2 glove boxes, an armrest box, and a little compartment over the dash in which I stow change)
-armrests are comfortable
-passenger and backseats are comfortable
-black interior color is chic and everything looks cool
-great warranty put me at ease
-4-cyl felt better than the CR-V, might have been the transmission, but it was better(and the V6 is better still)
-handling is great
-don't even think about airbags cause I weeded out ones that didn't have good safety features, and the Outlander obviously has good safety if it made it past that crucial filter back when I was searching
-red dashboard color is really good, but it may make the clock feint if I turn on the lights and it's still light out(since the dashboard dims when the night lights are turned on)
-daytime running lights
-only my two keys will start the car(sensors inside to electronically verify)
-steering wheel controls for audio system(really convenient)

Minor annoyances(because I'm very pleased with it):
back is so large stuff moves around
-when tall people are in the backseat with headrests up it's hard to see out the rearview mirror(but the side mirrors are huge so I have to adjust my driving to utilize those more)
-sun visors somewhat small
-hard to adjust steering wheel is a problem with getting in and moreso out(have to tilt my leg a certain way to make it out with the height of the steering wheel I set)

Notes:
-didn't want sunroof(and thus didn't get it)
-the normal sound system is good enough for me...didn't really care for the XLS super sound
-liked the notion of heated seats, but not on my model
-I don't think my trim has blutooth capabilities, but I haven't tried it becuase I don't talk on the phone while driving in the first place
-no box under passenger seat, so wires might be in trouble(but there are more than enough compartments on the dash)
-don't have baby seats yet, but I'm pretty sure they won't have a problem buckling in, in the future
-no seatback pouch, but I wouldn't really use it anyway
-I tried cruise control once I think and it works great, but I don't like cruise control in the first place so haven't used it much, controls on steering wheel

New design for 2008 with lots of extras.

by Jerry from San Antonio, TX (2/17/08)
Pros:Very smooth ride with CVT transmission.
Cons:Not much room between front seats and door panels (hard to get big hand to adjust seat)

The new I4 engine is not a screamer, but has enough power. The 6-speed CVT automatic transmission is very smooth. You can also up/down shift the gears manually.

Sci-fi shuttle for your modern day space battles

by Ultralander from Texas (1/18/08)
Pros:Sci-Fi design, great MPG, rock-steady handling, super-sporty & comfy seats, tons o' storage space
Cons:A little shifty in really high winds, some interior materials could be a bit sturdier

I just picked up my new 2008 Outlander XLS AWD - with the Sun & Sound, Navigation and Luxury packages. I was forced to travel out of state to get the EXACT car I wanted, but let me just say how incredibly fun it was to drive this little Anime rocket back home! After about 500 new miles, I can honestly say that this car is heads and shoulders above other cars in the class. It easily out-handles the RAV4, CRV and SantaFe (I drove them all) - while, at the same time, has most every modern convenience any techno-geek sells plasma for. MPG is great so far (26mpg on the freeway driving 70) - and I've heard it usually gets better. Sure, there are a few interior bits that are a bit thin, but Mitsubishi did a great job re-designing the interior door panels and giving the sun visors a tweak, proving that they are serious about promoting this car. Any doubts I had over the past few weeks, have been permanently erased from my mind. You owe it to yourself to check out this little CUV/SUV - it has so many wonderful abilities/features, you'll be wondering why you don't see more of them shuttling around town.

Outstanding!

by Carol L from Carolina PR (1/13/08)
Pros:Strong SUV, FAST entry, many storage spaces, etc.
Cons:Inside cabin can hear fan going on&off, electronic gas level can't know exactly how much fuel is left

Last December I bought the 2008 Outlander LS 2W. I like it's sporty looks, better than previous generation. Beautiful red display on panel display. Good leg & head room for both driver & passengers. Confy seats. Good response on city & highways. Great stability on curves. Trim LS 2W includes many features for a small price

The Outlander is one quality made vehicle.

by Jonathan from PA (1/10/08)
Pros:Excellent quality vehicle, with it's 10 year and 100,000 mile warranty. Good looking too.
Cons:More brands should have a 10 year/100K warranty as standard practice to know of their reliability!

The best and fastest selling SUV in the market is the Mitsubishi Outlander for it's looks, price, quality and long warranty! It is good to know that there are still carmakers that are willing to stake their reputation on their cars and SUVs!

Great vehicle!!

by Mike from Indianapolis (1/07/08)
Pros:Good looks, peppy engine, great warranty
Cons:Driver's arm rest short (but no real cons!)

Compared most of the other crossovers, CR-V, Rav-4, Equinox, Vue, RDX, etc., and couldn't beat the value or the looks of the Outlander. After being the happy owner of a 2000 Eclipse GT I suppose I'm biased toward Mitsu. I bought my Outlander XLS with every option navigation, sunroof, bluetooth, 4wd, heated seats, and even "loaded up" the price was lower than everything else. The warranty is unbeatable. I wanted a sport sedan and my wife wanted a SUV and the Outlander is the perfect compromise.

BTW the 650 watt Rockford Fosgate rocks!

A well balanced vehicle, that's sure to please

by macuis from Regina, SK, Canada (1/06/08)
Pros:Refer to comments for more details
Cons:Refer to comments for more details

I've driven cars exclusively since I could first drive when I was 16. From a 1985 Ford Tempo GL, to a 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE, it was time for something different. Now that I'm 24, I was looking for something with a little more cargo room, a little more power, and a little more comfort for driving friends around. So I decided to take a look at the compact SUV market, and had four on my list: Hyundai Sante Fe, Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V, and the Mitsubishi Outlander. The Sante Fe has a smooth, quiet ride, but didn't have many options. The Rogue was pretty stylish, but felt underpowered and cramped. The CR-V has it right, but more expensive. For me, the Outlander had a good balance of everything that I wanted.

Pros:
- Strong Engine, quick acceleration
- Powerful Rockford Fosgate Sound system, with good sounding radio, and superb SIRIUS satellite radio service
- 3rd row seating is convienent
- Very stylish LED tail lights
- Two glove boxes, and upper and lower, very handy. Pen holder on the inside is a neat idea
- 9 cup holders in great locations. Doesn't fit my 1 litre SIGG water bottle though
- Front heated seats are quick
- F.A.S.T. Key is a great selling point. Lock and unlock doors by simply touching the handle or button beside it is, well, fast. Starting the car without having using the key is very convienent
- Hands-free Bluetooth system is easy to setup, voice guidance will help you set it up quickly. Voice recognition is quite accurate
- 2nd row seats slide forwards and backwards
- Steering wheel mounted audio controls
- Perforated leather seats are really comfortable
- Display of fuel consumption, driving range, full remaining, servicing reminders, and temperature information is very extensive and useful

Cons:
- Have to go to dealership to change the F.A.S.T. key options
- Window defrosting doesn't get 2-4 inches along the outer edges on extremely cold nights
- Ride is slightly bumpy
- Engine is quite loud during revving (a slight ticking noise), and idling (diesel engine, or tractor like)
- 3rd row seating is really only for people 5'3" or less
- Front heated seat buttons are in a slightly awkward location (below the belt buckle release button). It's a cleaner, hidden look, but not very user friendly for those new to the car
- Hands-free Bluetooth requires you to store phone numbers into the Outlander's phonebook, rather than obtaining it from your cell phone's phonebook
