Not reliable, MOVE ON! Looks can fool you!

by amanda from (4/15/09)
Pros:The Car looks attractive, it has a mp3 jack, it "can" get "good" gas mileage
Cons:It is not reliable!!!!!!! I've had my car for 6 months and it needs work.

I bought my 2006 Impala with a 3.5 L Motor 6 months ago. It has 85,000 miles on it. They are mostly highway miles. I've been reading about the car and it scares me. My water pump just went out which is very common. It costs right at $550 because you can only get a AC DELCO Part from the dealer. The part alone is $275.00 or so. Anybody that wants to do it for more is ripping you off. The other problem I'm having is with the traction control light going on and off which is causing my car to shirt hard. When it is off it shifts just fine. Then the check engine light is on and it is making my car run rich which decreases my gas mileage. I took it to the mechanic and they thought it was a leak in a hose..now they are unsure. If I find a solution I will post it. If anybody has found a solution please let me know. I'd say pass this car on by.

That great GM feeling isn't feeling so good.

by Don from connecticut (2/17/09)
Pros:nice looking ,good mpg's
Cons:cheap interior , multiple problems.

I purchased this impala with 6k miles on it. @ 6.3k air sensor in rr wheel failed. Two days after that was repaired the module that controls the tire pressure system failed. @ 7.5k RF wheel bearing and axle shaft failed. @10.5k miles car was taken to dealer for premature tire wear, dealer determined that the steering rack failed. Steering rack was covered under warranty, GM refused to replace front tires stated that the defective rack didn"t cause the front tires to prematurely wear out. My out of pocket cost $428.00. @ 11k miles the high pressure lines from the power steering pump to the new steering rack failed, towed back to dealer. @ 20k miles plastic molding pass. side front seat broke, replaced by dealer. @ 21k molding on pass. side broke again, dealer replaced again. @ 24k same molding broke, again replaced by dealer. @ 27k same molding broke again, again dealer replaced, and stated that GM will not replace molding under warranty again. The molding broke again shortly after the last repair, and is still broken today. When asked why not, was told it was deemed to be a poor design, so much for the bumper to bumper warranty. @ 31k miles remote starter failed, dealer replaced both remotes, the antenna and the module that controls the starting system. @ 31.5k the transmission cooling lines failed. @ 32.5k leaking antifreeze, coolant cap and housing failed. That"s it so far. The car now has 33.5k miles on hopefully all the bugs are gone HA HA, I don't think so. So much for that great GM feeling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

New Chevy Impala won't start

by Bill McNish from Ansonia,Ct. 06401 (3/31/07)
Pros:This Impala looks very good
Cons:(1) very little room -back seat (2)Battery dies if car not run within 14 days

It has been our experience that our 2006 Chevy Impala will not start if not run within 14 days. In 9 months , we have had this new car towed 5 times. We are afraid to use the car. We can't leave it at the airport because when we get back from our trip of 7 to 14 days - the car won't start. Dealer and General Motors say this is normal. We think not. They must think we are stupid. GM so far has not solved our problem.

Looks Good BUT A BAD BAD VALUE

by Disappointed in IOWA from Clinton,IA (3/27/07)

I DO NOT recommend buying this car!! With less than 20,000 miles it has alredy had problems with the engine. It does not handle well in high winds. And now it has to get new upholstery in the front seat. WHY?? According to the shop replacing it, very cheap material was used in the center panels. It has pilled up, wearing out and looks like crap!!! I wish I would have looked at the camry and Ford Mecury cars alittle more. Save Yourself, run as fast as you can the other direction.

Don't buy this car

by Ron from Proenix Arizona (3/13/07)
Pros:Great power
Cons:Huge electronic problems

G.M. owner for 30 years. I will never buy another Chevrolet. G.M. had no idea how to fix this car. From the tire monitor system to everything electronic being run from a chip in the radio. If it could fail it did. Niether the dealer or Chevrolet would stand behind this car. Worst vehicle I have ever owned.

Great So Far

by Dominic Paolelli from Utica, NY (3/02/07)
Pros:Fuel economy is hard to believe for a car this big, 30 MPG Hgihway EASY, Nice size
Cons:A little more engine noise than I would like at idle, but that's about it

So far i love the car, nice ride, plenty enough power, GREAT gas MPG for size, Nice seats. Had a Ford Taurus prior to this, I liked the Taurus, but for the money the Impala's simply a better buy.

Extremely Powerful Vehicle! Great Vehicle!

by Obed Cepeda from New York, N.Y. (2/23/07)
Pros:Extremely Powerful, Very Comfortable, and Handles Well Even in Snow
Cons:Its a good looking car, and I would buy, but I wished it was styled more like a lexus

I rented this car for three days to drive up to Boston from New York City for my company. I picked it up at Avis, because it had an EZ pass so I did not have to wait at toll booths. I was immidiately impressed with the raw power of this vehicle. You just tap the gas pedal, and it flys! -- NO Delay!

It started snowing on the way back to New York from Boston; the car handled extremely well in the snow, and I felt very secure. Overall, the car seemed very well built and reliable. This car makes me proud to be an American, and want to buy American!

Cheers

you get what you pay for....

by Gregg from Cooperstown NY (2/18/07)
Pros:We're just pleased totally so far w/ this vehicle (My wifes vehicle)
Cons:None except..It's something my Grandmother would drive. Hey but from point A to point B

Good family whip, we bought it loaded, Plenty of power, "knock on wood" no problems thus far. We run Cooper Weathermasters mud/snow tires in the winter, it gets her around good on bad roads... My wife loves it and I guess that's all that counts.

great car

by L.K. Ritchie from Hamilton, Mi (2/13/07)
Pros:Just had the car a week. Everything seems OK at this point
Cons:Wish I had the rear seat that opened into the trunk

Had a 2003 Impala that I gave to my son. The 2003 was the best car I've ever owned and I have owned many, foreign and domestic. When the chance to get a new 2006 at a deeply discounted price developed I jumped at the chance. If this car performs as well as the 2003 I think the Impalas will continue as the car of choice for me. The 2003 would get 32 MPG on trips and 27 around my small town. Hope the 2006 is similiar because there is absolutely no reason to go for those 4 cylinder runabouts when the comfortable Impala is available.

problems with SS

by bigfish from collegeville, PA (2/13/07)
Pros:Car has great looks, strong pick-up.
Cons:POOR Braking!!! Tire monitoring system and remote start (keyless) don't work.

Car looks and drives great. However, braking in this car is vary poor in wet or slick conditions. Car is has a Major problem with the anti-lock breaks. Also, remote start doesn't work unless you are right up on car and tire monitoring system has all kinds of problems (Car has been in 7 times and GM can not fix the problem). GM customer is un-welling to fix the problem.
