2013 Audi allroad

2013 Audi allroad
On Sale:
Late summer 2012
Expected Pricing:
$40,000s

A new, third-generation Audi allroad goes on sale early fall or late summer this year as a 2013 model. The 2013 allroad was shown at the 2012 North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January and at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

Sharing the latest Audi A6 platform, which was introduced on the 2012 A6, the allroad is more rugged than Audi's standard Avant wagons. Like the Volvo XC70 and Subaru Outback, the allroad has been modified for outdoor use. The first two generations of the allroad quattro were launched as 1999 and 2006 models.

Allroad features 7 inches of ground clearance, a couple of inches higher than a regular A6, allowing it to negotiate primitive roads and deal with deep snow. The ground clearance gives the allroad a look of capability, of being able to handle it. Its adaptive air suspension can at the press of a button raise the ride height for rugged terrain and lower it for high speed.

The 2013 allroad is expected to offer four powertrains, including three diesel-powered TDI versions. That's internationally. It's unclear which will be sold in the U.S.

We'll likely see a gas-powered version that uses a 3.0-liter V6 rated at 310 horsepower and around 325 pound-feet of torque, likely with a sporty 7-speed dual-clutch transmission that can be used as an automatic or shifted manually.

The allroad exterior features a unique single frame grille design with vertical chrome struts, stainless steel skid plates and side sills, and raised aluminum-optic roof rails. Matte finished lower bumpers and wheel arches are standard, though a full paint finish is available. Flared wheel arches and a skid plate, visible under the front bumper, add to the rugged appearance. Wheels will be available in 18-, 19- and 20-inch diameters.

The new allroad is about 194.5 inches in overall length. Compared to its predecessor, the new allroad has a longer wheelbase for ride comfort and more headroom for front passengers.

Allroad's big cargo compartment holds nearly 60 cubic feet of cargo with the back seats folded down, nearly 20 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats in place. An power tailgate is expected.

A Panorama sunroof is expected. Safety features include Audi side assist, which monitors the space behind and beside the car by radar and detects any vehicles in neighboring lanes.
