Some things just don’t go together well. For example: Chicken livers and ice cream. Miley Cyrus and good taste. Congress and common sense. Station wagons and the word “cool.” Okay, the last one is debatable. Fact is, station wagons have a very real sense of coolness about them. It’s just that not everyone sees it. Here’s look at 10 models that illustrate what I mean.
How could a vehicle from Jan and Dean’s classic hit “Surf City” not be cool?
Just as badass as the more famous coupe version. Plus it can haul a lot more.
1959 Cadillac Superior 3-Way (Hearse)
Technically this isn’t a wagon, though it could easily serve the same purpose. It’s actually a hearse, the same kind seen in the 1971 cult classic Harold and Maude.
0-60 in 5.1 seconds; what more do I need to say?
A lot of companies have tried to wed station wagons with SUVs to create the perfect crossover vehicle. Volvo succeeded with this model, which makes it a pretty cool example of outstanding design.
Like the Volvo, this is simply a well-thought vehicle that offers both dependability and versatility. That makes it cool in my book.
1968 AMC Rambler
I admit up-front that this one is cool purely by association, and then only to me. A ’67 Rambler wagon was my very first car. It transported me on dates, to the movies with friends, and to my part-time job at Wendy’s. I wish I still had the thing.
1974 Buick Estate wagon
The Buick Estate models were the biggest wagons ever to come out of Detroit. This would be the perfect ride for you and the other members of your survivalist group, should apocalypse occur. Built like tanks, they can hold enough weapons to blow away every zombie on the planet.
2014 Callaway Corvette Aerowagon concept
It’s the ultimate proof that wagons are cool: they’ve been embraced by the team at Callaway Cars. For $15K they will convert your C7 Corvette into what they’ve dubbed the “Aerowagon.” Even better, your new family ride will have a top speed of over 200 MPH. This will ensure that the kids get to soccer practice on time, every time.
