The 2012 U.S. News Best Cars for the Money Awards help you navigate a confusing automotive market by identifying cars that hit quality and value from all sides. The awards combine the U.S. News Best Cars rankings with the average price paid and five-year total cost of ownership data from TrueCar.com. And then there are those of us who will buy what we want when we want it and don't care what someone else is telling me to buy !

if you can still find one and if you do, shoe horn a 283-chev. in it will realy scoot. saw one like that way back when.
    • David 4 months ago
You would not have to shoe horn a 283. When I was in High School, a friend of mine had one with a factory 5.7 liter V8. He put headers on it, big tires and it was FAST!!! Yes they came with 304's as an option.

My sister bought a Toyota Rav4 and hate it. Nothing But problems and going back to the dealer. She tried to return it on the 3rd day and Toyota refused to take it back. "Oh What A Feeling Toyota Gives You" A feeling of wanting to throw up after the purchase
    • J 4 months ago
What specific problems did she have? A dealer will NEVER take a car back when it is registered to you. That is the transition from new to used....having plates on the car. I can't imagine what could possibly go wrong in three days that wasn't covered under warranty. Our RAV has been perfect for over a year and a half. I will never go back to domestic SUV's.

Illinois lemon law: The manufacturer gets three (3) tries to fix after that it's the manufacturers car, total refund. You hear that Mizery.

THE RETURN OF GEO (SPECTRUM): What would I do if I were to start an auto company? Instead of going to direction of today's autos, becoming more expensive and such, I'd go another route.

1st: I'd purchase the rights to GM's defunct "Geo" nameplate.

2nd: I'd build a auto factory in the southern US. and said factory would be mostly automated. (more so than most other car companys). Doing this would allow more reasonable wages for workers since the south has lower living costs, as well as liss likely to bring in a union such as UAW. Still though, workers would recieve decent starting pay about $15.00/ hr. (UAW is half the reason auto companys have abandoned the US.) The extensive automation of the factory would mean fewer workers to hire, thus a lower operating cost.

3rd. I'd have an efficiently-built car designed and built with limited options and a simplified manufacturing process. Possibly called the "Spectrum".
Two body styles: three-door hatchback ("Triad"), or five-door hatchback ("Penta").
Every car would have AC, auto trans., power windows/ locks, keyless entry, ABS, AM/FM CD 4 spkr. stereo with i-pod / ext. audio input.

4th: To make the cars competitive, they would be equiped with plastic body panels (lower material costs and lower insurance costs) and engines built by Toyota.
The autos would sell for $13,595 (Triad) or $13,995 (Penta)

    INTRODUCING THE NEW GEO SPECTRUM!

You could have a Geo R.G.E. (really great economics) and you could pet it and love it and hug it and spank it when it's bad and you could call it George.
    • Fat 4 months ago
i wouldnt be surprised if someone took your idea an made it acually happened an took all the credit
    • Lloyd 4 months ago
To late, Suzuki owns the GEO, GM just bought and sold 'em to give the Impala the ridiculous EPA MPG of 32. CAFEs go figure.

This list is so biased, please check the consumer reports. They show the real life rating for these "so called" top rated American vehicles. One should think about why they depreciate in value and why they fall apart soon.

HAHAHAHA go check out that "3rd Row" in a RAV4. BAHAHAHAHAHA

They saved the Ram for the end because it's a dead give-away that the whole list is paid advertising.
  • Aaron  •  4 months ago
Yeah, go ahead and buy that Escalade. It'll be gone before you even enter your front door.

You don't need a rainbow sticker to prove you're gay, fellas. Just drive a Miata.
  • some guys  •  4 months ago
Ram 1500 won because it was the smoothest riding and had the best interior. While I beg to differ (ever been in an F-150 lately), why would you rate a pickup truck solely on comfort? It's a pickup truck! F-150 smashes it on every level for about the same price.

Mazda MX-5 Miata is the best-selling sports car in history? Best selling two seat open convertible dummy. Wish I could get paid to make mistakes on the job all the time.
  • FreedomOfSpeech  •  4 months ago
why are they torturing the little engines in Rav4 with 3rd row of seats? and how comfortable it will be in that tiny space where two rows can barely accommodate? wondering what 'compact' really means now a days..
