Ford engineers and marketers pulled out all the stops to make sure the 2015 Mustang was built for the global audience. Naturally, there are already a lot of opinions regarding style and the use of a 4-cylinder engine, but things might get even more interesting. Can you say Ford Mustang Hybrid?
According to reports from GoAuto, Ford is open to engineering the Mustang with more fuel-efficient options. These features could range from a diesel engine, to an electric hybrid, and include the use of a 9- or 10-speed transmission. Speaking in a recent interview, powertrain boss Bob Fascetti said his team is open to the idea:
“We’re not looking at diesel at the moment, but given where we need to go with fuel consumption we are looking at all our options.”
Of course, a four-cylinder pony car is sacrilegious to many Mustang faithful, but also the idea of a hybrid could leave many enthusiasts scratching their heads. What do you think — should Ford explore hybrid and diesel options in the new Mustang? Tell us in the comments below.
