If you're looking to take home a new Chevy Cruze, you might be out of luck for a few extra days; GM [NYSE: GM] has issued a stop-sale of the popular compact sedan—meaning essentially that no further deliveries can be made until are inspected and repaired as necessary.

The issue, reportedly concerning a fracture-prone right front axle shaft, hasn't been associated with any injuries; but it could be a potentially dangerous issue—as while there would still be steering and braking control, according to GM, the vehicle would lose power delivery and coast to a stop.

GM advises that the issue could also cause affected vehicles to move unexpectedly when parked on an incline without the parking brake applied.

It affects 2013-2014 Chevrolet Cruze sedans with the 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine—in all, 171,521 vehicles, plus 2,525 parts that were already used to fix recalled manual-transmission models. And according to GM spokesman Alan Adler, the issue only affects about one third of the Cruze models currently on dealer lots in the U.S. and Canada.
