While some have laughed at Scions and Nissan Cubes for resembling toasters, people do seem to be buying them. As such, Honda has upped the ante. Today it unveiled the N Box, which may make a lot of toasters look round. Honda describes the N Box as a “mini-minivan,” and is aiming to provide a spacious and economical vehicle–at least compared to other mini vehicles. To make such a small rectangular car, Honda used a new gas tank design, engine, and transmission. The N Box gets an estimated 22.2km/L (52.2mpg) and 90 percent of the vehicle is recyclable. It will go on sale on Dec. 16 in Japan. No US release date has been announced.
