Here’s a look ahead at the changes Infiniti has in store for its 2012 model-year roster of luxury cars and SUVs:
Infiniti M full-size sedan: Now available, a new M Hybrid gas/electric-powered version of Infiniti’s flagship sedan boasts an impressive 360 horsepower, yet is rated at a fairly frugal 32 mpg on the highway. Enhancements to the rest of the Infiniti M line for 2012 include a new 18-inch Wheel Package, consolidation of two separate option packages, and a Graphite interior treatment newly available on models equipped with the Deluxe Touring Package.
Infiniti G midsize sedan: After adding a new fuel efficient G25 model to the line for 2011, minor changes to this midsize luxury sedan include a a new Graphite interior color, a Black Obsidian exterior color and dark-finish 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels for the G37 Limited Edition version and a new Midnight Black grille for the G37 Sport Appearance Edition.
Infiniti G midsize coupe: No major changes.
Infiniti G midsize convertible: Albeit no help to previous owners who may have suffered a blowout, a standard spare tire is now packed in the trunk for 2012, replacing an otherwise lighter weight and less inexpensive, albeit inferior, tire repair kit.
Infiniti QX full-size SUV: Redesigned for 2011, this large truck-based SUV sees mostly option-package changes for 2012. Infiniti’s innovative Blind Spot Intervention system is added to the Technology Package, the 15-speaker Bose Cabin Surround sound system is now included with the Deluxe Touring Package, heated second row seats and remote tip-up second row seats now come with the Theater Package and headlight washers are now fitted to QX56 2WD models with the Deluxe Touring Package.
Infiniti EX compact crossover SUV: The HomeLink Universal Transceiver (i.e. garage door opener) is now standard on the EX35 Journey version.
Infiniti FX midsize crossover SUV: The already-expressive FX receives a revised front grille and front fascia design, new gauge lighting and standard heated front seats on all models. A new Limited Edition for the FX35 AWD features an exclusive Iridium Blue exterior color, 21-inch 10-spoke dark finish aluminum-alloy turbine wheels, a Navigation System with hard-drive media storage and a novel 360-degree Around View Monitor. There’s also a new Graphite Shadow exterior color, a new 20-inch wheel design for the FX35 Deluxe Touring Package, the adaptive headlamps now come with the FX50 Sport Package, and quilted leather climate-controlled front seats are now included with the FX35 Deluxe Touring Package.
Infiniti JX full-size crossover SUV: The all-new JX is a seven-passenger luxury crossover that will debut in 2012 as an early-2013 model. Car buffs will get a preview of the new model at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, prior to its global debut at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show. Few details are as yet available, but Infiniti says the the new JX will “push the boundaries of what a luxury crossover can be,” whatever that means. Expect dramatic-looking exterior styling with an elegantly cast interior, the requisite seating flexibility and a plethora of high-tech features that should include everything in the automaker's playbook and then some.
