Nissan pulled the curtain back on its new Pathfinder Concept recently at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show. The Japanese auto maker was able to shed over 500 pounds for its new concept Pathfinder and in the process is promising an increased fuel economy of 25 percent over its predecessor.
Details are slim at the moment, but our fellow gearheads over at Motor Trend report that Nissan has confirmed the 2013 Pathfinder will utilize a 3.5-liter V6 engine, continuously variable transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive.. According to Motor Trend, Nissan is also planning on making a big splash at this year’s New York Auto Show.
Unfortunately, while we are big fans of the current generation of Nissan Pathfinder, we stand puzzled over Nissan’s decision to remove design features which are wildly popular among the current crop of Pathfinder’s. In fact, it appears that much of the bite and vigor have been removed from Nissan’s popular SUV — leaving us with, at least from a design standpoint, a somewhat dull revision. Of course it remains to be seen how consumers will react to the new direction Nissan has opted to take with the Pathfinder, which ultimately will decide whether it was indeed a success or a horrible failure.
