Power and performance and dream car describe Nissan's 2015 GT-R sports car and the race-inspired GT-R Nismo supercar version that has participated in such events as the Nürburgring 24-hour race. Both models debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show. The 2015 GT-R will go on sale in Japan in December 2013, and will reach markets including the United States at a later date, according to the automaker. The GT-R Nismo supercar will be launched in Japan in late February 2014. It will be introduced in the United States and Europe later that year.
Nissan's GT-R already is considered a premier performance supercar. For 2015, the GT-R's suspension has been recalibrated and tuned for a smoother ride and better road-handling, according to Nissan. The upgraded GT-R comes standard with Dunlop SP Sport Maxx GT 600 tires for better road grip and handling response in all conditions, thanks to stiffer sidewalls, the company says. Braking calibration and the vehicle's steering have also been fine-tuned and refined, Nissan reports.
In addition, the supercar has been enhanced with new LED lamp technology and the exterior receives distinctive front and rear design changes. The new headlights feature AFS (adaptive front-lighting system) that automatically adapts the angle of the light beam according to the speed of the car. Visual appeal is heightened with the addition of a new body color called Gold Flake Red Pearl.
The cockpit of the GT-R sports car also receives new trim options, and there is a choice of three interior color schemes including a new pale ivory trim option. The steering wheel is trimmed in leather, while the part-aniline leather seats feature stitched accents. Special insulation and acoustic tuning--even at high speeds--allow driver and passengers to enjoy the sporty engine sound, Nissan says.
Nissan claims that the GT-R's advanced body construction enhances aerodynamics. The multi-material hybrid body combines steel, carbon fiber and die-cast aluminum to achieve high stiffness and light weight. An optional carbon rear wing is available, which is attached to a carbon trunk lid, which can save half the weight of the standard trunk lid.
Specially Tuned GT-R Nismo Ups Performance Ante
The 2015 GT-R Nismo is a race car that is factory-tuned with the help of Nissan's in-house motorsports specialists. Increased power is offered in the 2015 supercar from a 3.8-liter, turbocharged V-6 engine that produces 600 horsepower and 481 lb.-ft. of torque. New high-flow, large-diameter turbochargers, which are used for GT3 racing, are incorporated in the Nismo edition.
Other special features include a suspension tuned for agility. Springs and custom-developed dampers in the front and rear suspension are also specially tuned to deliver ultimate grip levels, handling and response, Nissan states. Again, special tires developed by Dunlop add to the package.
The exterior of the GT-R Nismo features an aero package to improve road handling and minimize drag. A widened front and rear bumper and carbon rear spoiler increase downforce, lowering the center of gravity.
Sculpted carbon-fiber reclining seats are featured in the cabin for driver and front-seat passenger. The steering wheel is 3-spoked and has red stitching, while the instrument panel features a carbon-like finish. All seating is finished with discreet red stitching.
Nissan's Nismo version will be offered in five colors, including a unique Dark Matte Grey to accentuate the car's "muscularity," Nissan states.
Nismo's performance knowledge stems from its GT and sports car racing background. The Nissan GT-R captured the Super GT championship in 2011 and 2012.
