It appears that those “rumors” we heard a few weeks back about a four-door Toyota GT 86 (aka Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ) actually had some merit to them. On the official Facebook page for the Dubai International Motor Show, they made it clear that a four-door 86 will be in attendance. And it will be bold. (note: the post has since been removed from Facebook).
Other than a very unofficial rendering, we don’t get much to work worth as far as details are concerned. Yes, it’s going to have the same platform as the 86, and yes, it’s going to sport some similar designs. But what’s actually under the hood is what’s going to be interesting — It could be the same 2.0-liter boxer engine except with some more power (250 horsepower).
Along with the sedan, a hybrid (coupe?) is expected to make its debut, drawing technology from the Yaris Hybrid-R we saw back in September. Output for that engine rumored to be in the market of 265-270 horsepower and about 15 percent thriftier than the standard GT 86.
Both of these cars are expected to go into production sometime next year, with the sedan variant making its production public debut in Geneva 2014. Both concepts will be in Dubai starting Friday.
