It's the first non-US made car I have ever owned. I definately would buy another one.

- Pros
- Great highway cruiser, comfortable, great looks
- Cons
- Could use bigger sway bars or better springs, issues for tall drivers
Purchased As Used
I bought the SL used, and it has great "bones." The engine is good, the trasmission is smooth, and it is solid. Things to look for: bad shocks, moderate body roll, bad brakes, and a few body noises (you can't fix the body). The car was assembled here in the U.S., and not Japan, so there are bound to be some "light" problems. Like any car, take it in for regular service, and you should be ok with it. In addition, check the recall and service history for the Maxima. I intend to replace the shocks, springs, and brakes with after market products. Other than that, it is rock solid. Oh, and for some tall drivers like me, 6'2", it might be a little cramped; don't even bother with the Altima if you are tall or wide....read morehide

- Cons
- wide turns, bigger blind spot then previous maxima

i recently bought an 07 maxima sl for 14900 and i think i got a veryy good price with ust 40kmiles and i cant say how much i love the car.... people always tell me its very sharp and the interior has so many toys its very close to its cusins in the infiniti family.... if you like sports cars but also want room for family and friends this is a perfect car for you. i am a previous 1996 maxima owner and this was one huge upgrade i just hope the reliability is the same and i get no problems other then that i am very happy with this purchase o and the suspension is amazing i hardly feel bumps...read morehide

- Pros
- Fun to drive, manual tranny would make it even better
- Cons
- Not sure about the CVT, but love the warranty
Purchased As Used
Nissan extended the warranty on the CVT to 160k miles at no cost to all owners. That is pretty standup in my book. No issues except a battery replacement which came a little early imo.

- Pros
- Engine, Overall Comfort
- Cons
- Build quality, looks
Nissan to me has always been one of those "fast" car makers. The older Maxima is no exception, especially the SE version of THE sport sedan. But now, Nissan takes a big step. Well, two actually. One, they're trying to step the Maxima up to bigger, more luxurious sedans. Second, whatever happened to good ol' manual transmission? That would definitely increase the sporty fun that the Maxima stores in it's award winning VQ series engine.
You know what people say: "Looks aren't everything personality is everything." Well, maybe not everything. Like all men, people want a "hot" car. This doesn't exactly fit my definition of that. The car looks weird at some angles, and it's gained a lot more weight since the fourth generation. Personally, I prefer the fifth generation looks the best of them all.
Comfort in this car is great. That's all I can say.
Now, don't get me started on the performance. If it has the Nissan badge on it, you know your going to have a high performance car. The Maxima goes 0-60 in a time of 6.2 seconds. Also, the VQ has won Ward's 10 Best Engine Award every year since it's intro in 1995.
Overall this car is excellent if you like a luxurious, but still sporty car. But, I would recommend the 2003 Maxima for the up most performance and looks. I hope this review helped, and I wrote this because I hope to get noticed by someone for my writing skills, if I have any. My dream job is working for a car magazine, writing reviews for cars. And, I'm 15, and I have been in this car before, and from my point of view, its great. It's also a great tuner if you will. Thanks....read morehide1 out of 1 people found this review helpful.
