2006 Nissan Xterra

- Body style. Power when it is performing well.
- Suspension, manual transmission is jerky when shifting. Sometimes it lunges forward when shifting.
I had read many good things about the Xterra. When I first got it, it was fun until the problems started. I have owned my 2006 Xterra since Sept. 20, 2006. The first problem started 2 weeks after getting it, sometimes the power just deccelerate when driving on the highway. The vehicle lunges when shifting. Shifting is not smooth. At 3500 miles, the vehicle began to ride lower. Dealer would not believe me. I am in my vehicle 4 to 5 hours a day (drive 90 miles one way to work), I know how it rides. At 6500 miles, the lack of power got worse. Sometimes when giving it gas, I can not get it over 60 miles even with the gas pedal to the floor. This occurs daily. I have to pat the pedal several times to get it to pick up speed.
I hate that I bought this Xterra over a Dodge truck. Went to trade it in at 7,000 miles and all I was offered was $12,000. I would have to take a $6500 loss. So, I am stuck with a vehicle that I hate most of the time. To solve the suspension problem, I am adding a lift to it. Hopefully, this helps. Since the dealership says the computer can not pick up the lack of power problem, I will just drive it until the problem exist all the time - maybe they will detect it than and fix.
I know that in the future, I will stick with a Dodge truck and not worry about gas mileage. My 1998 Dakota has 298,000 miles and is still running good. It did not cause me as much trouble as this Nissan....read morehide

- Very nice high riding rugged truck with plentiful power, excellent value.
- None thus far., I did my homework and find the vehicle as advertised.
Firstly a buyer must realize that all the auto mfgrs are calling FWD station wagons (and even FWD econo box 3 dr. coupes) SUV's. Don't be fooled by the name game. This is a true SUV, a rugged RWD 2 ton truck with plenty of power and acceptable fuel economy for it's size. The best part is it's not bloated up with costly accessories to inflate the profit margin on a take it or leave it basis. You add the features you truly desire. Compare it to a Ford explorer V6 and you will see you get a better engineered vehicle for 5k less. Dollar for dollar, pound for pound the X-terra is the probably best value on the market. This is my first Japanese vehicle, I got tired of waiting for detroit to wake up. Once you drive a truck I doubt you will ever step back down into a car. Don't hesitate, supply and demand is bound to bring about price increases. I traded in a 1993 GMC JIMMY whis was smaller, the 4.3 Liter V6 engine was 50 HP less and only got the same mileage as the X-terra. True you will pay a little more at the pump but consider the law of physics and your inability to grow new limbs....read morehide

- Great horsepower, tall, feels very safe behind the wheel
- None yet
After having this car less than 2 months, another driver in a GMC Jimmy hit me head on while I was stopped at a stop sign. I am very thankful to have been in my Xterra, as it took the hit really well and kept me safe. The crumple panels really did their job, containing the damage to the front quadrant of the vehicle and not messing up the rest of the car. Even though there was $5000 worth of damage to the car, I could still drive it home. Buying this car was a great decision....read morehide

- GOOD LOOKING CAR, FUN TO DRIVE
- STANDARD FEATURES SHOULD INCLUDE AT LEAST POWER LOCKS AND WINDOWS
JUST BOUGH THIS VEHICLE AFTER HAVING A TWO DOOR SPORTS CAR, AND I DID NOT THINK THAT DRIVING AN SUV WAS GOING TO BE SUCH A THRILL. THE NEW XTERRA X HAS ALL THE LOOKS AND RAW POWER I COULD ASK FOR, ALTHOUGH I WISH THEY WOULD HAVE MADE THE POWER LOCKS AND WINDOWS STANDARD AS WELL... BUT NO REGRETS... I LOVE MY NEW CAR... I STRONGLY RECOMEND THIS VEHICLE FOR THOSE THINKING ABOUT HAVING A FAMILY AND STILL FEEL LIKE DRIVING A COOL CAR.
