Great Hybrid Choice

by Enjoying my New Altima Hybrid from Beaumont, CA (7/05/08)
Pros:Happy with MPG, Makes me more aware of my driving habits with the Instanteous MPG
Cons:Low Driver Head Room, Middle Console is too short, uncomfortable.

Last week, I purchased a Nissan Altima 08 model wtih the $1,300 upgrade package and a sunroof. Decided I didn't need all the bells and whistles as I have that on my GMC Yukon. My wife got the older Yukon and we traded in her Chevy Blazer. I have the commute to work and will be driving the Altima.

I am getting about 32 mpg so far with about 75% hwy and 25% city driving. A family member has the 02 Altima (nonhybrid) and I enjoyed riding in that car. My coworker has the Prius and even though the mpg is higher, I just didn't like how it looked. I also test drove the 08 Civic Hybrid but the dealer markup was extreme above the MSRP and it felt too small to drive comfortably. I am glad I went with the Altima Hybrid.

Carefully......this car will steal your heart

by Eric g. from La Mesa, CA (7/04/08)
Pros:Fun to drive, smooth acceleration, intuitive cabin controls, nice stereo
Cons:Gas milage averaging 29.5 (combined city/freeway).

First, I have to say that until I purchased this car I was a dedicated Toyota consumer. However, when I drove this vehicle I just fell in love w/ it. It is set up nicely w/ all the bells n whistles, is solid on the road at 'high' speeds, gets heads turning when driving around the city, has an awesome stereo system, accelerates very quickly & smoothly (has to do w/ the transmission.....), is very quite (especially when driving in slow traffic & cruisinge8LKw on electric only.

What can I say, the car rocks!

Great balance of stye, performance & fuel economy

by Joe from Massena, NY (6/26/08)
Pros:fuel economy, functionality, good looking hybrid
Cons:trunk space

Did a lot of shopping as it is my first new car in almost 20 years and am very sastisfied with the purchase. I am not an aggresive driver but when you call for great acceleration it is available at any speed. Was concerned about mileage with some people rerporting lower results but agree with those who say you have to drive it with an awareness for fuel efficiency for best results. First tank broke in very gently and got over 36 mpg mostly on 10 mile trips 50/50 hwy/city. Next fill-up after 700 miles got 41 mpg with similer driving. Followed by a 300 mile highway trip with 4 andults and one child (very nice ride) and got just over 40 mpg at an average of 60 mph. Am actually looking forward to filling up again to calculate mpg. Just passed 2000 miles and the car has exceeded expectations. Highly recommed for anyone who has always used those tips for better fuel economy that we see popping up so often now or for those willing to learn. Only problem may be that with this car using the "pep" as it is broken in is all to much fun and increaingly tempting. Maybe I should have bought a Prius!

Incredible car

by Max from Northridge, CA (6/24/08)
Pros:Great functionality, excellent acceleration, great investment in forward technology and efficiency
Cons:None that I have come across so far!

I absolutely love this car! I test drove a Camry Hybrid and a Prius and was near ready to buy the Camry when I realized I had better test drive the competition! I found the Altima Hybrid to be much more comfortable and functional than the Camry. It also has better acceleration compared to other hybrids. It actually drives very similar to the Acura TL which I have driven a few times. Sporty and efficient, in the same sentence!

I was also treated very well by the dealership; Nissan in Thousand Oaks, CA. Many other dealerships brushed me off because I was not willing to pay over MSRP to get a hybrid while gas prices are going up. The cars are in such high demand here most hybrid dealers treat you like dirt unless you are willing to pay an additional 3-5k on top of MSRP.

I only drive 12 miles a day average and am not one of the people scared of gas prices. I made an investment in efficient technology that will help the planet and therefore our future generations. I would seriously recommend this car to anyone and everyone.

A plus plus plus!

by Thomas from Burbank, CA (6/13/08)
Pros:How about nearly 700 mile crusing range? One fill up and weeks to the next one.
Cons:Smallish trunk.

I'm 6'5" and I'm comfortable in this car and my family can sit behind me. That doesn't happen often. We tested everything and this is far and away the best styled hybrid out there. It's nicer than most non-hybrids. Takes a minute to learn to maximize mileage, but we're getting better. The 20 gal fuel tank means you go a while between fill ups. And if I want to blow pass someone, it's got the engine to do it. It doesn't shift gears--that's really new. The keyless entry is too cool. And duel climate standard. Nice. Nearly $6K less than Camry and even $4k less than Prius. No complaints yet going on a month--and 1 tank of gas. Love it.

The Camry killer?

by Andrew from Toronto ON (6/12/08)
Pros:Best handling and best looking hybrid on the market, performance oriented
Cons:Rough transition from electric to hybrid, small trunk

For my money, this is the best hybrid out there -- It has the power the Prius lacks, and is fun to drive and relatively attractive (qualities the Camry Hybrid lacks), while it keeps the advantages of Toyota's full hybrid system. The only downsides are a slight buckle when the CVT switches from EV (electric) mode to the engine, and a small trunk, and a decided lack of options for Canadian buyers (considering that this car is only sold in a few blue states, I suppose Canadians are lucky to be able to get it at all). Definitely worth a look if you're in the market for a hybrid.

Run away from this car as fast as you can!

by Sid S. (6/10/08)
Pros:SEE THE CONS !!!
Cons:Total safety systems failure, I mean TOTAL! Parts Nissan buys from Toyota are not sorted out.

I would not recommend this car to anyone for any reason! I had a total braking system, stability system and traction control system failure in a car with less than a 1000 miles. No one from Nissan, either here in the USA or from Japan (the guys who built the thing) after working weeks to figure out what failed and why, can explain the failures. YIKES!!!

I own another Hybrid from another car company and have never had a "lick" of trouble since the day I drove it off the lot. I think the fact that Nissan buys their hybrid systems from Toyota and then puts them together with their gas engines and other systems, tells us that Nissan is "jury rigging" the drive and saftey systems in their cars, so that they can compete in this important and growing market.

Interestingly, this is the 3rd Nisssan I've owned. The 2 previous non-hybrid Nissan cars were excellent trouble free vehicles.

Hybrids don't have to be ugly, uncomfortable cars.

by Pete from San Dieog, CA (5/16/08)
Pros:Excellent fuel economy, Big, roomy and comfortable.
Cons:Small trunk.

I'm 6'4" and this hybrid was one of the few that I could comfortably drive. My gas mileage right now is around 38mpg, so I am actually exceeding the advertised gas mileage. It is a super-quiet ride and must be considered on the top end of hybrids. If you want a car that is going to dispel the notion that you have to sacrifice a roomy, comfortable, quiet ride for fuel economy, this is the car that will dispel that stereotype. Highly recommended.

Great technology, good savings.

by Gil from Rancho Cucamonga, CA (5/07/08)
Pros:Quiet. Fuel economy. Appearance. Automatic climate control system. CVT
Cons:Seat bottom position. Lack of trunk pass-through. Scroll-type gas mileage display.

I wanted a hybrid, and I bought the Altima. I think it is the nicest looking hybrid on the road. Purchased mine in September '07, and as of May 7 have 7,000 miles on it. I do average 36 miles per gallon on every tankfull of gas. The readout usually says 37, but it is really 36.

I don't have power seats, so maybe only a problem with the manual seat, but the bottom seat cushion position is too "flat" even with the adjustments (and maybe a bit short for my 6'3" frame). However, the tilt/telescope wheel is great. I like that this car is made in Smyrna, TN, I like that it uses a proven hybrid technology from Toyota, and I am quite pleased with this vehicle.

Given the tax incentive ($2,350 that came right off the amount I owed the IRS), the mileage, being "green" for the environment, and the quiet at stop lights....I don't see a disadvantage. The hybrid system and batteries have a 10 year/100,000 mile warranty.

GREAT CAR. ALMOST NO NEGATIVES

by JAY EDELSTEIN from WEST HARTFORD, CT (5/02/08)
Pros:Great Fuel Economy, Sporty, Decent Performance, Comfortable, Quiet, loads of interior storage
Cons:small trunk

Since Oct, I have put 10K miles and average about 35 mpg in mixed driving. I save roughly $150 month on gas over my Jeep. Comfortable for long trips. And when needed, way above average acceleration. I have no real complaints at all. Great Value.

Even the trunk size is not an issue and I have 2 kids and lots of stuff. The only thing I would have liked is a pass-through from the trunk Due to the placement of the batteries, there is no pass through, so for skis, you have to use a roof rack.
