fixed gear, not fixed speed or fixie. And it is completely different from what we rode as kids.

I grew up riding a unicycle. So a fixed gear is kinda like what I grew up riding. :)

Fixed gear, not fixed speed. It would be a very very bad idea to put a kid on a fixie, the bikes we rode as kids were single speed bikes with a coaster brake. You can coast with the coaster brake, if you were try to coast on a fixie you would get thrown over the handlebars.

And I love the look of this bike, but is a disc brake really necessary on a road bike?

I wish this was written by a cyclist. Is this a fixed gear track bike, or a single gear free-wheel? Judging by the disk brake, I imagine it's got some sort of free wheel hub. And the handlebar is not wrapped in tape - it is clearly a rubber skin. And the pedals are not soldered on - they can be replaced by clip-ons. Cool bike, but I'm sure it's way overpriced.

Agree with "Just" above... wishing this was written buy a cyclist. I'm sure they are all WAY overpriced! To the makers of these bikes... let's get a little more price-realistic.. especially with our current economy the last few years and with no end to coming back down to earth on the horizon.

    1) You can't lean into corners 2) You can't cost. 3) Your paying a lot just for the name. Other than that its fine for people who are used to this kind of thing.

When I said I would have a Maserati, I didnt specify what kind!
  • Isidro  •  7 months ago
What? No carbon fiber? Not even the brakes? I was willing to pay 20 grand for carbon fiber brakes. I need to slow down loudly from 20mph going down hills...
    Sort it out, Maserati.

The cranks look like the hollow Sungino cranks they used to use on the old Schwinn Sting BMX bikes! (They get one point for that!)..... but that disc brake has to go!!!!

J&M.... "Hipster" is far to kind.... Hipsters are the only kind of people that will pay big dollar for a Fixed gear bike..... And only a real "Hipster" would show up to a Critical Mass ride on a Maserati (Disappears down a side street at the first chance!!!!!)

The fixie movement is dead, like several people who thought they could safely ride one in city traffic lkie Kevin Bacon.

are you for real right now? check out every bicycle maker and see that they all have a city fixed gear line. it's freaking booming. no better way than to ride fixed in town. no need to for gears.
  • Michael Gabrielse  •  7 months ago
an interesting and weird retro. I bet it rides nice around town though.
  • Random Taboo  •  7 months ago
Yahoo screws-up another article! Do they have 8 year olds doing their fact checking?? A "fixie" is a fixed gear bike and not a fixed speed bike! And it is nothing like what we all rode as kids....there is no freewheel...if the wheels are moving, the pedals are moving!

The Specialized Venge is a sweet bike, but it's over $10K.

I dont see the point of making an "old school" track bike, if you're going to put that ugly "new school" disk brake on it.
