Probably one of the last factory built stock cars with license plates ....can remember one that ran around here 4speed with an electric clutch.Along with it
cousin the dodge Daytona Charger which had air shifter (not OEM) .Both would run
190 mph clocked inspite of a 150 speedometer.

I remember when I was a teenager back in the 1970's, me and my parents were going out to dinner in another town when we were passed (like we were standing still) by a Dodge Daytona Charger on a rural Michigan road. I had seen a Plymouth Superbird in a magazine, and it looked very similar. It sounded awesome, I can still remember the exhaust noise as it roared past my parents 1965 Mustang.

plymouth didn"t come out with the roadrunner until 1968 with a 383 cu in or 426 cubic in hemi as an option.

I had a Dodge back in the day. It had a slant 6. Let me tell you that car was a work horse. I gave it to a friend after turning 175000 miles. That car and motor just kept on running, and running. Those were the days!

      Born Free, engine, not motor.
    • Lucasred 2 months ago
Yup, the slant six was a great motor. Mine had a push button automatic trans in a Belvedere. The car was a piece of junk by the time I got ir. It still got over 30 MPG all the time and I, being 17 beat the crap out of it. It had big snow tires on the back. I'd push the button for reverse, get it going good and then punch Drive and smoke those snow tires. I paid $20 for the car, beat on it for 8 months and scrapped it for $20.
Probably the best car I ever had. At least dollar for dollar.
The good old days. Gas was 3 gallons for $1,

Saw a racing green,"BIRD" 383, flying home from "The Nam", called ahead to my dad and just enough back-pay to buy it cash, $ 2800,00, got more action in that car, than I can remember....
  • King James  •  2 months ago
A collectors toy and to expensive for most. I give it two, maybe three years and gone, just like the last 426 hemi series.

It's to shut-up the fools who accuse them of being incapable when they were being realistic, only a limited number of people will want, or be able to afford a high performance machine. Having said that, I'd like to have one for road trips :-P
  • LetGodsortthemout  •  2 months ago
What idiot from Dodge decided to make a 426 HEMI Charger a four door? Get back to retro and a 68,69,70 body with current technology.

looks lice a nice build, but they still handle poorly, you can smoke a rice burner with this, but not on a back road

BACK IN THE DAY THEIR WAS AN INTERNAL MEMO THAT WAS SENT TO GM AND FORD PERFORMANCE EMPLOYEES TO NOT RACE AGAINST ANY CAR WITH A 426 HEMI BECAUSE IT WILL KICK YOUR ASS. THAT IS NOT A QUOTE BUT THE MESSAGE WAS THE SAME

I liked the looks of the last gen Charger better. But if they man up and put a 6 speed manual behind this engine, I might be in line to put another Dodge, er... Fiat in the garage beside my '12 Cummins.

had a 68 Charger with a 440 mag. Cannot stand that Chrysler ruined the Charger by putting 4 doors on them. I hate the Charger of today and would never own one.
