2008 Pontiac G5
There are 4 user reviews for the GT Coupe trim shown below
- Adequate power froma 4 cylinder, and a respectable gas mileage. First day i was averaging 24-25MPG.
- Doors have to be opened a lot to comfortably swing your legs out. Quiet but could be improved.
With the exception of needing the doors open pretty wide, which could be bothersome parking in tight spaces, and the fairly cheap looking plastic used for the interior doors, it seems to be a well packaged sporty little coupe. The relatively low price makes it even better. Of course all the perks associated with Onstar makes it a no brainer. Could it be made better? Sure, there are a few things that could be improved on, but if this car proves to be as reliable as it is competitively equipped, and I think it will be, then I give it better than average scores. My GT handles very well, especially for real driving conditions, and the extra power from the 2.4 motor is nice to have when merging onto a fast, traffic congested highway. Premium fuel is recommened but not necessary, with the slightly higher compession motor in comparison to the 2.2 motor found in the regular trim version. For the price, I think this is a nicely equipped Coupe. The DIC in the dash even tells you how much air pressure is in each tire. Very nice touch Pontiac. Most people never even check that because they don't want to get out of the car and have to bend down in cold weather and get there hands dirty. The Pioneer speakers and stereo are also attractive items of interest. I was surprised when I found out power seats weren't even available though. I've read other reviews that pointed out the lack of a telescoping steering wheel, and while I tend to agree, at 5'09" it really isn't an issue for me, sure it would be nice to have that added adjustability, but I'm not uncomfortable without it. It rides nice, it rides quiet, but might be able to be improved even more so, especially when it comes to outside wind noise. It's not bad by any means, but it could be improved on. All the controls seemed to be very user friendly and I quickly adapted to what controls did what, and I'm not use to driving a Pontiac with similar controls. My biggest complaint about the interior would have to be the cheap looking composite plastiv used for the interior door paneling, and dash. Again, it's not that's it's bad, but in my point of view it wasn't up to the standards of the rest of the car. Of course my G5 GT is brand new to me, but those are some of my first impressions about the car that struck me right away. Did I mentioned the racy white faced gauges, very nice. I personally don't think any other car in it's class can compare to the style, power, or the pros associated with Onstar that comes with a G5. The interior door panels, dash, average wind noise canceling design, and average fuel economy it gets in comparsion to some of it's competitors, are the only areas I can see could really be improved on, and that's looking for things to improve on....read morehide

- Nimble, quick,perky little car
- It takes time to learn what all of the buttons do.
This is a GREAT car. Great pick up good gas mileage ( I have an automatic GT. First tank reading was 24 MPG...not bad for the first 200 miles).
The only thing this car doesn't do ...yet... is drive it's self.
I am really going to love this car.
The Nitrous Blue is neat !!!

- Performance, looks, XM, iPod jack, sound system, manual transmission, sunroof, warranty, DIC
- GT requires 91 octane, driver's side blind spot, small trunk opening, tiny back seat
All in all, I love this car and it is a great value! For under $20,000 you cannot beat a G5. It is by far better than any import in its class! My biggest regret is that it requires 91 octane gas. I am used to driving larger V6 vehicles and I bought the smaller and less powerful G5 to save on gas costs. I feel I am paying just as much for fuel as I was with the V6. I wish I knew that before I bought it. Other than that, I love it, it is loaded with cool features especially the Driver Information Center (DIC) and it is quite comfortable for a 6 ft. tall person to drive. I love the manual transmission as well. They are becoming a rarity in GM vehicles which I find unfortunate. The power is respectable as well. Pontiac has impressed me once again!...read morehide
