I just love my 2003 Pontiac Vibe. Great on gas and runs like a champ. Best used car I have ever gotten. I highly recommend this car if your looking.

- Very fast for a wagon, without compromising on cargo capacity.
- Wish 6th gear was a little "taller" for better highway fuel economy

I bought my Vibe GT when it hit the market in 2002. I've never regretted it. The car is every bit as fun to drive today as when I drove it off the lot.
Off the line the car is reasonably spry, and as the tachometer swings past 4000 RPM you really start to pick up speed... until you hit 6000 RPM, at which point the cams shift to their high-lift position and the car rockets forward to a blistering redline above 8000 RPM -- you'll hit 40 MPH in 1st gear, and can exceed interstate speed limits before you get out of 2nd gear! I had my car dyno tested, and it has 160-hp at the wheels (so at least the advertised 180-hp at the engine). While fast driving is fun, most days I go easy on the horses, and can get 31+ mpg fuel economy on the highway. (As I mentioned above, I wish that Toyota had put a "taller" 6th gear in the box to improve cruising fuel efficiency; lower RPM's on the highway would also quiet the engine a bit.)
It's not an SUV, but it holds a surprising amount of cargo (as I discovered when packing for a move). There are a number of seat positions available to allow for varying sizes and shapes of cargo. And although the car isn't heavy on the low-end torque, it has plenty of horsepower to get a load up any hill, provided you don't mind reving the engine to make it work.
Other than routine maintenance -- including tires, belts, etc. -- the only trouble it's given me is with the CD player. We've literally spent 10-times as much on repairs for my wife's Honda as on my Vibe.
Bottom line: After 8 years of driving this car, I still enjoy it, it's still reliable, and I think it still looks great. I can easily imagine another 8 years of reliability and driving pleasure....read morehide

- Handles well, great brakes, amazing fuel economy, versatile cargo capabilities
- a little noisy on the highway, somewhat poor rear visibility

Excellent car, I've had it three years now, done all the maintenance myself and it is built well for that (access,... most of the time). Good pricing for common parts too. Best fuel economy I've ever had (7L/100km highway with four people and all our stuff, 33.6mpg), sporty 1.8 litre Yamaha tuned engine, fun to drive. I wish all cars had engines that sportbike manufacturers had a hand in designing. Very practical for cargo applications, almost like a little pick-up truck, you'd be surprised how much room there is with the seats folded down....read morehide

- Functional Utility is great! Lots of interior space, was able to haul home 8' lumber
- Road noise until I installed Michelin HydroEdge tires, now its quiet and handles great too.

Bought my used in '04 with 32k on it and now have almost 130k on it with no problems other than normal maintenance (oil, filter, brake pads, etc). I average over 30mpg with mix of (mostly) hwy and city driving.
With the back seat folded down, we've hauled all kinds of bulky cargo including a dog cage, groceries, power tools, camping gear and bringing a dozen 2x6x8' treated lumber home (with front passenger seat folded down.
The 115v AC power outlet has kept my laptop, cellphone and similar accessories charged, especially on multi-day camping trips.
When a neighbor kid broke my rear window wiper, I discovered that buying the needed replacement parts from the Toyota dealer was a little cheaper than getting it from the Pontiac parts department.
It's not the best looking lil' car, but its certainly is one of the most practical. Would I buy another one? You bet!...read morehide
