I LOVE MY "MEAN YELLOW" SOLSTICE GXP!!!

by Patricia Meeke from Cache, Oklahoma (7/13/08)
Pros:Appearance, stereo, fuel economy, performance,
Cons:Truck space, wind sound from conv top, no lumbar support in seats

I LOVE MY GXP!! EVERYWHERE I go people comment on my "hot" car!! My GXP is "Mean Yellow" and people say that itdoes look mean in their rear-view mirror. I drive it to the gym every morning, the best feeling in the world is driving back home with the top down.....FABULOUS!! This fine little car could use some improvements in the comfort area (seats) and storage, but all-in-all the Pontiac Solstice Gxp is a GREAT car!!!

Choose something else.

by Chuck from Nashville, TN (7/12/08)
Pros:Looks, and a great AC
Cons:Everything else

OK, I don't own one of these, so I don't have to justify a purchase decision to anyone. I rented for two days, it's a cool looking car, but that's about it. Visibility with the top up is horrendous, a soup spoon would make a better mirror. the cockpit is NARROW, no where to put your outside elbow. NO internal storage other than a kleenex box size hole between the seats. No seat recline. Switches for the window are way back in the doorwell. Performance is anemic for such a small car with a big hood (not to mention the poor mileage). You can't get a single suitcase in the trunk with the top up, you'd be lucky to get a laptop bag in there with the top down. And when you open the trunk, these silly spring loaded leaves pop up (part of the top) that have to be manually reinserted each time you close it. No room for a spare tire, instead you get an air pump and a can of fix-a-flat. I really want to like an American roadster, and was excited when I got this car, but thoroughly disappointed even before I drove off the lot. Many, many other options out there- pick up a BMW, Honda S2000, Miata, etc. I had a del sol that got 35 MPG with cavernous trunk. I'd take that car back (with the 180k miles) before I bought one of these. They rented this car to me for the price of a sub compact. If you're in LAX area, Avis rents them for a song. Spend $75 and see if you agree.

Love it!!

by Jillian from Utah (7/07/08)
Pros:Looks great, sturdy
Cons:bad fuel economy

Love my little Solstice! It's a head-turner and I get attention everywhere I go. I was recently in an accident w/ it... a woman in a huge SUV crashed into me on the freeway going 80 and sent me spinning; she rolled and her car was totaled. I only had minor body damage and drove it away. So it's very safe.

The only con is the fuel economy. I don't know how this car gets 28 mpg on the highway like this says... I'm on the highway every day for work and I get 21, max. That's the only bad thing though.

Excellent sports car at a affordable price

by sharon from Rochester, NY (7/03/08)

I bought a solstice convertible and am extremely satisfied with it. It is fun to drive, and handles beautifully. The convertible top is very easy to remove despite some reviews that I have read stating that it was difficult. I have gotten many looks and comments from people that see it coming down the street! (all positive of course). A must have for the sports car lover that wants to get a super sports car at an affordable price! Gas milage is great! No complaints.

EATS MIATAS FOR BREAKFAST

by Cindy from Texas (6/24/08)
Pros:Best Roadster out there for the money!
Cons:None

Everything and everyone was geared in the world of car magazines and auto reviews to put the Solstice down from the moment it went into production.
Naturally the push and desire of car magazine editors and writers was to bury it under the Mazda 2 seater, the Japanese import that has ruled the market---untill now!
Well, GM has upped the ante with the turbo engined Solstice there isn't so much as a peep from the media comparing it to the dated looking Japanese import.
Now their bashing of the Pontiac Solstice has progressed to comparing it with the Porsche Boxster, Honda and BMW roadsters and other high priced 2 seaters.
Well folks, if you have a brain in your head you can see that ANY car priced in the 40-100 thousand dollar price range will have an upper hand in all departments: from performance to the cup holders, over a modestly priced but spectacularly built vehicle like the Solstice.
The fact is, for the amount you are going to spend for a roadster in the up to 30k price range you have only two honest choices:
Pontiac or Mazda.
Pontiac has built a stunningly beautiful and fine performing car with the Solstice and now with the GXP in full production for the 2009 models the Mazda Miata (MX5) doesn't even come close to touching it!
Come on now and let's be real about this!
If you wanna pay (big $$) for a truly fast and fine looking ride and have lotsa cash---stay away from the Boxster and buy yourself a REAL THING OF BEAUTY and a much better investment for your money: like a Chevrolet Corvette Z06 LZ3.
If yer on a budget and still want speed, great looks, and nimble handling----
buy a Solstice!
