This is Porsche number 4 for me since 1974. It is far away the best Porsche I've ever owned. I rack up a lot of miles on my cars, already have 21,000 on my 06 997S Cabrio. Porsche has 65 pages of options for you to choose from when you order your car. Granted, that a la carte ordering method will quickly add up to real money, it's the way to get what you truly will use and enjoy. (Mine wound up north of a 997 Turbo). Seriously consider the PCCB--ceramic brakes. Virtually no dust, a significant reduction in unstrung weight, and handling improvements. Also, think about custom ordering some color other than silver or black. Porsche's paint department is very capable. I chose a rare color and am pleased to have the only one in the world in that color for now. I also went with a hardtop, rarely ordered today, but it makes the car into a coupe in about 8 minutes.
The bottom line is this. If you have any time behind the wheel of a 911 from the past, you will be an expert in the 997. Porsche went out of their way to make these things handle like a well made racecar. 30 series tires add you in the turns, and 355 horsepower is more than enough to do anything you could possibly want to do. Don't even think about buying a Turbo if you live in the States,--it's overkill. (I've had mine over 180 mph, when breaking it in on the autobahn). The navigation system works fairly well, although it performs better in Europe, for Europeans (with real-time traffic advisories). Seriously consider a European Delivery for the car, but know in advance that gas will run you about $6.50 a gallon for Super over there!
