2007 Porsche 911 Targa User Reviews
- $38,840 - $43,462
- Just plain fun to drive, Great power & handling. Turns heads wherever I go.
- Limited visability out rear window when roof is retracted but who cares!
I picked up my '07 Guards Red Targa 4 in early November, It was a leftover with 91 miles on it. I really had my sights set on a 2 or 3 year old 911 but when I saw this model.. The dealer threw me the keys and said take it for a spin.. He never asked me for a copy of my divers license!!! I was back in 15 minutes with a big smile on my face.. I had to have it.. Dealer took almost $15k off the sticker!! I couldn't refuse..The car is a pure joy to drive.. On wet roads, I feel glued to the pavement.. To bad I live in New York (the heated seats work great) where the snow & Ice of the winter months will keep the car in the garage.. The PCM module is a bit confusing to use but the radio and CD system sound great.. I like the idea of the rear window opening like a hatch to put items on the folded rear seat.. The seats are very comfortable.. I thought I would have trouble resting my arm in a comfortable position on the open window ledge but It's perfect.. Pleanty of leg room too.. I do notice a few creaking noises I believe are from the retractable roof but it's no big deal.. I got a real laugh when the dealer showed me the retractable cup holders.. Funny but the paperwork shows the car as "5 passenger" Could that be 2 adults and 3 pets?? Now.. bring on the summer!!!!! Oh yes.. I have been stopped by police 3 times during the first week I've owned the car..... Who says Red cars are stopped less??...read morehide

- Great handling and performance. Easy to drive in all conditions. Classic porsche looks.
- Price. Insurance. No option for turbo.
Great vehicle inside and out. The gas milage isn't exactly what Porsche claims, but if that's what you're looking for, get a Honda. The miracle is Porsche's 6 cylinder can put out 355 hp and lightening the gvw. I've had several sports cars; Cobra, S2000, SLK55 AMG, Corvette and none of them come close the the refinement and precision you find in the 911. The only problem with the Targa....it doesn't come with the twin turbo package. Ah, some may say the cabriolet is better, but try driving it in the winter with the top down. The targa is the all season car that gives you the open feeling of a convertible, but the warmth and comfort of a coupe. Happy hunting....read morehide

- Legendary Porsche 911 handling and drive with the benefits of the Targa roof, rear hatchback door
- Pretty much the same cons as that of any other sports car.
The biggest benefit of the Targa over the other cars in the 911 range (actually 997 range with current generation) is the Targa roof. You can have almost the same closure as a regular Coupe, or you could roll down the screen and have the experience of a solarium while zipping along curvy mountain roads. Or you could open up the roof and have almost the same experience as a Cabriolet. If a Coupe has an openness of "1" and a Cabriolet an openness of "10", then the Targa allows you to adjust along the range from say "2" to "8". If you live in climates having varying seasons (e.g. East Coast) then this car will give you joy in all seasons. If you live on the California coast then get a cab. But in the Targa you can have the visual sensation of the sky and trees above you. The tag-line "Skydriving" in Porsche advertisements is right on spot. One time while driving in the late summer in the afternoon, I saw a thunderstorm in the distance and on a whim drove towards it. Entering the storm I could see the rain hit the roof, with occasional lightning bolts going from the sky above me to the ground in front of me. With 4WD I never was concerned about losing control. After leaving the storm I could see the setting sun light up the towering clouds above me. This experience is reserved for just the Targa. Now I am enjoying it in the fall foliage. The Targa 4 may be considered more a "grand tourer" than a racer. If you want a track toy, get a Targa 4S (extra $10k) perhaps with X51 power kit (yet another $14k?). Minor con is that when the glass roof is open the visibility is poor out of the rear. Also I am told that the suspension on the Targa 4 is slightly softer than that of a "regular" 911, but the PASM option, which is standard on the Targa 4S, takes care of that "issue". Must get options: Navigation, Bi-Xenon, power seats. When selecting a color, make sure you see it in person first- the dark glass roof and chrome strip on the roofline are strong visual features, and you may find that what you prefer in person is different than what you may see in photos or on the web. This car is not for everyone, but is a great choice for many people in the market for a car of this price range. It is perfect if you want a Cab and a Coupe but can't afford both....read morehide

Great performance, unbeliavable how it grips on the curves, and is very confortable at the wheel, even for very tall drivers. The open roof is a dream.....and we fit TWO good size golf bags!!!! No other similar car matches it, and we tried a few.
