Best car ever

by 911 Turbo owner from Chicago, IL (7/19/08)
Pros:Unparalleled performance. Comfortable for everyday drive and unbelievable on the race track
Cons:none

What other car in the world goes 0-60 under 4 second, handles perfectly on the race track, and is so comfortable you can drive it everyday?

Best Turbo yet

by porsche pilot from Fremont, CA (6/30/08)
Pros:Devastatingly fast, capable of humbling most "super-cars" costing 2X
Cons:All minor complaints; chin spoiler scrapes, minor interior rattles, GPS is hard to use, no MP3 port

I've had my 997TT for about 18 months. I've run it in regional auto cross events and track days. Nothing can touch it in a straight line, auto cross and track cornering is close to GT3 and Cayman levels. If you can stay within a few car lengths in the corners, you will catch them in the straights. The Italian exotics may have a slight advantage at the very top end in speed, this is of little to any advantage in the real world, they also cost 2X the price and can't be driven in the real world either. The car is very balanced and predictable, very little turbo lag. The sport chrono package is worth the $1800 as you get a temporary over-boost worth 50ftlbs. The limit slip diff is also worth the $1200 as options. Don't pop for the ceramic brakes as they aren't necessary unless you track to car often (hint; buy a GT3) and are very expensive to replace and don't work well when cold. The sport seats are also worth getting. Fit and finish much improved over the 996. 997 chassis is greatly improved as well.

On the con side, the styling is a bit subdued and there are minor issues with interior rattles and the chin spoiler scraping on some driveways (like mine). It would be nice if the navigation were easier to use and a MP3 port is lacking. Worst of all is that if you want to see the engine, crawl underneath the car! The rate that this car builds speed is very deceiving, there is an adjustment period when you need to look at the speedo, 120mph looks a lot like 80mph in most other cars.

In summary, if you want a true performance car (that can smoke just about anything, anywhere, anytime) that can be driven daily in the real world, this is it.

I like the 997

by Simon from San Francisco (6/28/08)
Pros:This is my 3rd turbo and by far the best. Handling and breaking is stunning. Much lighter and more
Cons:Front nose clearance is so tiny that scrapes are inevitable.

Annoying having to press the "sports" button to get into race mode. Like I car about fuel economy. Mirror motor turns very slowly and so that's annoying when backing up and parking. That aside, this car is a cornering monster and when racing back from Santa Cruz to San Francisco late one night I took on a F430. In a straight line I was slightly faster but that depended on which gear. Ferrari beat me in the lower gears (1st and 2nd). The all wheel drive really showed coming out of the corners though. It was a lot of fun. For all out power though by 2004 996 with chip and upgrades (600 bhp) is still a faster car

Not worth it.

by Bob P from Hollywood,fl (6/20/08)
Pros:tremendous acceleration with the tiptronic automatic with sport chrono 0-60 3.2 secs
Cons:full of rattles in the rear package tray and door panels, rides like a go kart

Bought one and put only 900 miles on it before dumping it. Full of noises and rattles they could not fix. jarring hard bumpy ride. Car is so small that its massive acceleration is unnerving. Too low to the ground and go kart like. Very overrated and not worth the price. I lost $25,000 on mine. Had it 3 months and hated the car. I recommend Mercedes AMG cars.
SL65 amg 604 hp,738 lbs of torque. Heavy luxurious ride. A much better car.

The legend lives on

by Michael from Reno, NV (3/24/08)
Pros:0-60 in 3.7 sec, 480 hp, slick and bold body styling, quick handling
Cons:Small for an exotic sports car, useless rear seats, does anyone have 130k?

Porsche continues to make the 911 Turbo a legend with the 3.7 0-60, 480 hp engine, areodynamic and bold body styling, and advanced handling. But what makes you not want to hate the 911 Turbo is the size of the car, crammed rear seats, and nauceous price tag.

But if you're a big fan of legendary Porsches, I would recommend the 911 Turbo!
