2009 Saab 9-5 Sedan User Reviews
- $14,722 - $15,304
- For the money, this is a very comfortable, quick, well appointed car
- It is beginning to show its design age... and the GM swap from Michelin to Pirelli tires was too bad
I have owned two earlier versions of the 9-5, including the Linear and an Aero before my current Aero. The earlier versions were stick but limited availability of the standard trans pushed me to the very good, very well matched automatic/tiptronic. It knocks off a mile per gallon but even with my heavier foot, the mileage is quite good for this very potent engine. While the movement was toward 6 cyl, I actually bought this latest 9-5 because of fear the next Saab 9-5 would only be available with a 6. News of the last few weeks will make me happy to see Saab continue to produce cars at all.
Saabs have been undervalued which has provided the benefit of getting a lot more car with a heavier discount. I have won over many converts, even from the traditional heavy hitters from Germany. Slick up the road a bit and the BMW owner friends who found themselves doing spins down the road moved over to the Saab and found better equipment levels and much more comfort. After several discussions with owners of older SAAB 9-5's while at the dealership, it is apparent that many major items will fail in this car as it ages. Specifically in this SAAB you can expect to have problems with the DI cassette (fuel injection module), faulty coolant housing and problems with the hoses connecting the radiator to the engine, various electrical problems with windows, dash, and HVAC system, all occurring around four years after purchase or conveniently shortly after the vehicle runs out of warranty. Apparently SAAB dealerships are not forgiving with repair costs either. If you don't care about resale value and get an extended warranty it is actually a decent car, otherwise shop elsewhere....read morehide

- No trim specified for this review
- I own a 2007 9-3 2.0Turbo great car, but I have not driven the 9-5.
FYI.The photos above are of a 9-3, unless it has been corrected.
The 9-3 looks quite different than the 9-5.I am looking forward to seeing the all new 9-5 when it comes out next year.
