2008 Saab 9-5 SportCombi User Reviews
- $12,617 - $13,022
- Quick, roomy, comfortable, fuel economy, loaded with features
Purchased As Used
This is my second 9-5 wagon and the bang-to-buck ratio compared to other wagons is a big selling point for me. The 4 cylinder 2.3 liter turbo-charged engine with 260 hp is plenty powerful, the standard leather seats are all-day comfortable and the rear seats are heated, nimble handling, and very good reliability. Scarcity is also a selling point for me. The brand is horribly under-valued, at least on the West Coast, which is good for getting a great price but bad for the brand's image. Local Saab mechanics are absolutely devoted to the cars and keep them running in top condition, and on-line Saab forums have a fiercely dedicated following to keep the cars on the road, too.
The car fits my family's needs superbly right now (two small children), which make the high safety ratings are another big selling point. The 9-5 comes with many standard features that other brands offer as options - moon roof, alloy wheels, heated leather seats front and rear, leather steering wheel, memory seats, rain-sensing wipers, dimming side-view mirrors.
Although the model was introduced in 1999 in the US and remains unchanged in many ways, the benefit is that the bugs have been worked out and mechanics have seen enough of them to know how to keep them running. The face lift the model received in 2006 has been panned as becoming too "plasticy", I think the changes make the interior look smoother, sleeker, and less distracting than the previous trim. I like the head light "eyeliner"....read morehide

- great ergonomics and sporty handling for a wagon
- crome around the headlights--only ostentatious styling touch which is departure from brand
This car is under-rated due to age of the design but the engine and interior has been redesigned and the basic platform is still very competitive with regard to performance for a front wheel drive vehicle. Engine and transmission silky smooth. Mileage high 20s to mid 30s on highway up to 70 MPH. Great acceleration between 30-80 MPH. If you need a cruiser with capacity for gear to get you through 5 hour plus drives this is the car....read morehide

- Performance, fuel economy, comfort, safety, room, features.
- Automatic touch windows and cargo door, more cup holders.
I have every performance car out there. I could not find another car with the performance, room, safety, longevity and comfort. I know the body is outdated and the engine is a four cylinder turbo but man this is a fun car to drive. I have had Audi A3, and Volvo V70 and they are great cars but lack the room and overall value....read morehide
