Look no further..4 performance & fuel efficiency!

by Tony R. from Orange Park, FL (10/06/08)
Pros:Great Fuel Economy, Great Acceleration, Sleek Looking Body, Fun to Drive, Smooth Ride
Cons:Blind Spots

I love my black 2009 Scion tC. I live in Florida and there are not many hills, therefore my fuel economy is 25mpg. The head and tail lights look phenomenal, while the body looks unstock-like (if that any makes sense). The alloy wheels that have recently been added to the 2009 tC and makes the car look a whole lot better. The pioneer radio system that has been recently added to the 2009 tC has a sub that thumps. The only bad thing that I can say about the car are the blind spots. I can't see out the back while Im backing up and I could possibly hit little kids because I can not see them. Kids are our future, although the way the economy is going, there isn't going to be a future ...anyways its great for teenagers or even an old man, such as my dad, who is 50 years old. So, go out and buy one!

Until Honda comes out w/ another Civic Hatchback

by Rick from San Francisco, CA (9/30/08)
Pros:being close to 100k miles--no major manufacture issues
Cons:body can easily dent. With the stock set up---body tends to roll on turns

I have a 2006 model. Simply a reliable car. I guess its how you care for the vehicle, that it returns the favor. So far the only changes I made were with the tires---which the stock lasted for over 86k miles (with regular rotation). And the use of synthetic oils (changed every 10k-15k miles---"amsoil"). Fog lights doesn't seem too effective.
Overall, the vehicle is without regret in terms of the offer. Ipod connection is a must have!!!. If improvements can be made, I would suggest a 6th speed to maximize efficiency. Overall MPG averages 30 mpg. The odometer reading is from mainly freeway driving.

Awesome!!!!!!

by Beth from Lake Mary, FL (9/18/08)
Pros:Great on gas, great radio and all the little standards that are extra elsewhere

I have had my 2009 tC for almost 3 weeks and I love it! I had a civic ex 2 door before which does not even compare to the tC. The leg room and space is awesome. What sold me on the tC besides its cute and sporty look, the hatchback trunk, again awesome space much more than my old civic. I love the 2 moon roofs, the stereo system sounds really nice, and all the compartment space is really handy! I love all the fetures the tC has to offer!! I have never been so happy when buying a car and I am very pleased with the decision I made. I love it!!!!!!!!! and you will too!!!!!!!

Supercharge it if you buy it.

by Spencer from Utah (9/15/08)
Pros:Fuel, Handling, looks, wide bucket seats, good sound system, rear leg room, cargo capacity
Cons:No leather seats, Must pay extra for a limited slip differential from TRD

The TRD Supercharger makes the engine run much more smoothly and with a supercharger pulley from Non-Stop tuning it gives it a really good kick of power.

Good vehicle, Minor flaws for the price

by hardwire from OKC, OK (9/14/08)
Pros:Appearance, Standard Features, Rear Leg Room
Cons:Body dents extremely easily, tracking is sub-par, rear end bounces with large bumps

I bought my car new in 2006. I still love it but there are some serious flaws that can get on my nerves on a day to day basis. First, the body on these cars is paper thin. I find a new dent just about every week! Just today I found one on the body above the door panel near the roof. How it got there I have no idea, but that seems like it should be fairly thick steel but it is not. I've also got many other dents in peculiar places such as the top of the fender. If you hit a speed bump at anything less than 3mph, the rear end will max out its suspension travel and make a really rough bump. The seats are pretty poor quality, as mine are already fraying at the seams. My car is only 2 years old and has less than 30k miles on it. The speakers are also pretty bad (as with most Toyotas I have seen). I have also noticed that the car loves to follow uneven patterns in the roads. If there is a slight rut in the road it takes two hands and a fair amount of strength just to keep the car straight. This is more than just an annoyance. It is a serious driving hazard when in wet/icy driving conditions. On the up side, the car performs very well with its relatively small 2.4L 4 cylinder engine. Lots of passing power and highway speed is a breeze. There is a lot of legroom in the vehicle, especially for the passengers in the back seat. Fuel efficiency is decent. I have seen my mileage vary wildly from 18mpg city to 23mpg. It seems pretty dependent on the amount of ethanol that is in the fuel. All in all this is a good vehicle for the price, with some minor flaws.

Pros:Outside appearance is great, great sound system, interior is slick, pretty roomy in the back
Cons:brakes sometimes clank and not as convenient as a 4 door

I've had my car for 2 months and I love driving it every single day, although it has some weaknesses, overall it is an amazing car.

Good Value but you get what you pay for

by Dan W. from Southern California (9/05/08)
Pros:Great value that is fun to drive.
Cons:You get what you pay for. Quality of exterior and interior breaksdown over time

Car begins to show age after 50K miles as the lower quality materials (reason why car is a good buy) begins to deteriorate. Paint easily scratches, dents easily appear, latches begin to break etc.

Best Bang for the Buck

by Josh from Seattle (9/01/08)
Pros:Tons of standard features for the money, sporty, fun, and TOYOTA quality.
Cons:Needs rear windshield wiper, can be uncomfortable on long trips.

As a 19 y/o, it was a big decision to buy a brand new 2009 Scion tC instead of many other cars. However, after three months of owning the car, I have absolutely no regrets. The tC has better looks, quality, and uniqueness than any Honda Civic Si, and it's built by Toyota, the company with the number one reputation for resale value and long term quality. Keeping in mind that "If you take care of your car, your car will take care of you", the tC is a vehicle from anything between daily commutes, shopping trips, long drives or weekend fun. I love my tC, and the standard features like Side Curtain Airbags, mp3 capability, and automatic everything was what turned me from a Civic (base model doesn't even have A/C!) to this great little car.

The good is obvious but beware hidden costs

by jinazaki from Mtn View, CA (8/10/08)
Pros:Lots of standard features that would be upgrades in other cars
Cons:Maintenance cost can be expensive and handling is coarse

I have an 05 tC that I bought new in Apr. 05. The buy-in cost of the car is almost irresistible; you get airbags, ABS, CD, AC all for the base sticker. The only real upgrades are side curtain airbags, AT and maybe by now the upgraded engine. Another good point is the use of a timing chain. That eliminates the need to replace the timing belt (tho this assumes your water pump wont need to be swapped out anyway).
HOWEVER...For a car of this size there's very little vertical clearance everywhere. I'm 5'11" and i have maybe 2" of headroom. If you are or have friends 6' or taller, best to look elsewhere. The rear hatch, with the hatch cover in place gives a very shallow 16" of height, i.e. the height of a wine case. The service intervals are every 5k miles. This can be a real pain if you tend to change your oil more frequently. Initially I was allowed to adhere to the Toyota 7500 mi intervals. Not anymore. Tires are expensive too, owing to their speed rating and ultra low profile. Average cost for a set of 4 is about 800 bucks. Paint chips if you look at it wrong. Handling is pretty crude owing mostly to the nose heavy weight distribution (69/31). On the upside, it's got lots torque up front and more than decent hp. The interior is nice and comfy and firm enough for those slaloms the suspension can't handle (drr). With the seats down, it can swallow a lot of cargo too. The design was pretty forward thinking back in 05. Oh yeah, another gotcha is a high insurance. Early on, the tC played outside it's target demographic, attracting a lot of 30-45 yr olds. No more. It's target demo (18-26 probably) has found the car and has similarly driven the insurance rate for this beast into the top 10%. I average 27mpg stop and go freeway. If I keep it below 75mph I get decent mileage. Above that and the mpg falls like a rock. Which I guess helps keep me right with the law.

Great car and the value for the money

by Mike from Cleveland, Ohio (8/10/08)
Pros:Great looking especially after I added a spoiler, drives very nice, performance is great.
Cons:A bit noisy, mfg tires last 15k miles, back set is uncomfortable

I bought the 2006 model and have 15k miles on it. Had no mechanical problems with the car. The car overall is great and I would buy it again.
Was trying to drive it in the winter time but the mfg tires didn't perform at all and lasted only 15k miles. MPG for this size car is not quite desirable, I get better mileage on my Solara.
