This is our second Subaru Forester. It's a 2006 bi-color green metallic LL Bean edition, we've had it for about 6 months.
It is one sharp looking car! I sometimes come out to the parking lot and fine a gawker or two admiring it. The designers did a great job creating a functional vehicle that has a lot more sex appeal than most other SUVs. (Although this is more of a car than an SUV.)
Everything about the car is excellent--just like our first Forester. There's plenty of room to seat four adults (my husband is over 6 foot), and for hauling things it's great. I opted for the optional roof carry case and it's well designed, sturdy and lockable.
Gas mileage is excellent. I don't know the numbers, but I know they must be good. The leather seats are wonderful. The sound system, with a 6 CD changer, is terrific.
Performance-wise we notice sluggishness in highway shifting when the air conditioning is on. It's not objectionable and certainly not a hazard, but it was noticeable enough that I had the automatic transmission fluid level checked (it was fine). Our first Forester was a manual transmission, and I may be spoiled by that.
My only other con is that the paint scratches very easily compared with our VW Beetle and our previous Forester. Because of the color, the scratches and chips really show, also. It got scratched immediately, I bought very good touch up paint on line. But my 2001 Beetle is hardly chipped or scratched, so I don't know what's going on w/ the paint.
Reliability-wise, our first Forester went 93,000 miles with only one major repair ($400); everything else was routine maintenance. This is a car you know will start in the morning.
Luxuries include climate control, which is wonderful, and heated seats that make you toasty in a moment.
Overall, a great car!
