2009 Subaru Forester

- better looking than RAV-4
- 4-speed automatic!!
Purchased As Not Purchased
The only thing that's holding me from buying it is the 4 speed auto. My 1985 Corolla LE(purchased new 24 years ago) had a 4 speed. I am sure the Forester's 4 speed is abounded with electronics. But no matter what, there are only 4 gears. So no thanks.

- 23 mpg overall, peppy, elegant, great value
- When sun roof is open all the way, wind rattles the back end of it.
I've been owning cars for over 40 years - 280Z, Cadillac, Audi, Jeeps, Chrysler 300, Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles, Buicks. This is by far the best car I've ever had. I compared it to the Rav4 and the CRV. Those were not unattractive looking, other than the external spare on the Rav4, but what sold me was the test drive. The Turbo model is superb and the equivalent of a 6 cylinder car. I get over 24 highway and just about 22 in the city. Love this car....read morehide

- Getting about about 24-25 MPG. Plenty of zoom. Quality.
- Wish for a USA Diesel and also 5 speed automatic.
I'm a Nissan/Infiniti convert! 2nd Subaru, Bought one of the last Baja XT Limited for my wife and we love it. This one in mine. Lots and lots of room for tall people front and back. Put on over 4000 miles so far and still an enjoyable ride. Purchased in mid June.
Now only if I could get Subaru to make a "Heavy hauler" for towing bigger stuff!...read morehide

- comfort, utility, handling, visibility, smooth ride
- auto down, but no auto up for driver's side window
Don't assume that since the two previous king-size reviewers found the '09 Forester cramped that this is a universal; I'm 6'4, 250 lbs. and that's one of the main reasons I bought it instead of its main competitors. I'm very comfortable in the Forester, while 1) the CRV's center stack pushed hard against my right leg; 2) I couldn't even sit in the RAV4 without my knees being jammed into the dash; and 3) though the driver's seat in the Acura RDX was comfortable, the passenger seat didn't go back as far and again jammed my knees into the dash (driver's seat is power, passenger is manual). The headroom in the Forester is also much greater than the others.
The above, coupled with a great, quiet ride (unlike the RDX, which rode like a coal cart), strong acceleration (unlike the CRV), and a number of other thoughtful touches (huge sunroof, speed-sensitive radio volume, tire pressure monitor, rear wiper that speeds up when in reverse, etc.) made this a no brainer for me....read morehide
