- Get's around great in snow. Cargo Space (Better than a car)
- Road Noise, handleing, shifting.

I am a subaru impreza driver and I love the car. My wife leased a forester because she use to own an impreza and liked it but wanted more ground clearance. Being a subaru guy I thought this would be a good choice.
First of all the road noise in this thing is terrible. I can't hear the radio unless I turn it way up to drown out the road noise and my wife doesn't like that. I can hear every bump and noise outside of the car. I will proabbly do a decible test in this car and make sure the next car we buy is not loud like this. There has to be a app for that right?
In addition to the road noise it seams like the suspension is very harsh. Our forester rides like an old pickup truck. I feel like I have been beat up after traveling around town. That mathced with the road noise can really wear you out. Also the suspension seams really rolley polley. Feels like it could loose grip and flip an any moment. A far cry from my impreza which is glued to the road.
Ours doesn't seem to shif all that well either. When you slow down to make a turn and then press the accelerator the car revs like it's not in gear and then sudenlly goes into gear. Not cool. THis also can happen when letting off the gas coasting and then pressing on the gas.
It does get around great in the snow. No problems there. Also we think that the back seat is a very reasonable size for a small suv. Especially compared to the impreza (not saying much). A car seat fist well in the back seat unlike our impreza. The cargo space and fold down seats has been very handy.
Bottom line I will be happy to get rid of this car. I really don't enjoy driving it. Maybe the newst forester will be better. I think we will try an outback next. I really like the subaru all wheel drive and I love my impreza that's why I would still stick with the brand....read morehide

- To small even for a suv, my Mazda 6 has more second seat space.

I like my Forester it get's great gas mileage. My Forester has really great pick up, I usually leave all other cars back at the light when turns green so awesome acceleration for a 4cyl. Smooth ride handles great on the road and even better at corners. Little small in back seats but the recliner feature is wonderful for longer rides or road trips. The Sun roof is wide and the kids love it. Being the best safety pick for 5 years in a row is always a plus with my two girls. I would recommended this SUV to any one who is looking for a safe, yet fun ride with good gas mileage....read morehide

- crisp handling, good looks, decent mpg, good in bad weather
- needs a 5 or 6 speed auto
Purchased As Used
I bought the certified pre owned forester with 4k miles for $18.5k and am not disappointed. Subaru bumps up the warranty on the engine and trans to 5 yrs or 100k on their CPO's and this particular one was a dealer loaner. Handles great, is comfortable and gets a legit 23mpg while driving mostly hwy @ 70-75mph. Good in the snow, slush and rain with factory tires and would probably be great with winter wear. Sure there's road noise and it does get buffeted by big winds but it is ,after all, a small suv. Could use a 5 or 6 spd auto but i'm satisfied with the trans. at this price point. Enough power for me and cruises well @ 80mph with no strain. The big test comes in the summer when I take it to the Canadian wilderness. All in all a damn good vehicle for the money....read morehide

- Decent fuel economy
- Uncomfortable seats, Noisy engine, Tinny sounding sheet metal
Purchased As New
For the money, I would buy something else. This vehicle is absolutely the lowest quality car I have owned. When you close the doors it sounds like you are putting a lid on a tin garbage can. The engine is noisy and it actually makes the car idle rough. The base model seats are almost like plastic, so when it's hot they get sticky....read morehide

- safety, AWD, can fit 5 very tall people comfortably, price compared to similar cars, gas mileage
- slow acceleration, had to be serviced after only 2 months
Purchased As New
I bought this car brand new and needed to get the power steering rack and pump replaced after only 2 months of owning it. There was also a recall on the catalytic converter. It took 2 weeks to fix all this and that was with rush ordering of the parts. Subaru told me they just "didn't put the car together correctly." Wonder if there's anything else that was not put together correctly? It's a nice car but the acceleration is slow and weird, feels like it can't shift itself correctly, good that they have the sport shift which helps. If I could do it all over again, I would not buy this car....read morehide
