I've spent a lot of time testing and reviewing vehicles over the past 2 months. I need a vehicle that is usable in 5 months of snowy weather (live in VT). A car that is safe (have a young child). Dependable (I drive around 250 miles a day 4 days a week). A car that can hold a respectable value in the market. (over 99% of all new cars will depreciate, the severity of this varies greatly). I want a car that is thrilling to drive, has great looks and is uncomplicated. I looked at the Mustang GT - great car except in winter, the Nissan Juke - poor resale, fair performance, Ford Focus ST - unsure on resale, interior looks great but a bit confusing. Dodge Dart - inexpensive but have serious doubts on resale, engine was a bit jerky w/ lag and boost in auto and manual, Civic Si - No turbo but still requires 93 ??, not as good in winter but still usable, Accord 2dr V6 6spd - very difficult to find - 93 octane required, 2 sold out from under me, Hyundia Veloster turbo - jerky w/ turbo lag heavy, sits very low for winter, unknown resale. I like a vehicle with the updated looks and interior but find that it can also be difficult to adjust to, like the New Fords have switched to the dimmer being a click forward, click back. This is not the push forward (high) then pull back (low) or click back to change between but rather click forward for high and click back for low. I was flashed many times the night I drove one. The Subaru though not tech wizard's dream inside is very easy to adapt to. I buy a car to drive and enjoy the ride, performance, tunes and also accomodate my job and family. I talk to people all the time that I show them features on their car they've owned for months or years and they don't know the car has or they'd even use. Mileage is fine in the subaru for the performance and all wheel drive. I'd like to see the car be able to run on a lower octane fuel as premium is 40 to 50 cents more a gallon where I live. I find the seats comfortable, it's easy to get in and out of the car. It is upgradable through Subaru allowing an improved stero, exhaust and trim accessories. As an auto appraiser I can say the one thing that really finalized my decision to buy was resale. Most WRXs ten years old still are selling for upper teens and above depending on condition. Another new car dealer has one for sale that's a 2009 standard WRX and they've listed it below retail at 23000.00. It only has 10k on the odometer but that's still only $4k less than a brand new 2013 in the same trim. I have found a great fit and love the vehcile.
