- Never ending handling, Excellent speed, Great for cruising
- brake dust on the wheels, unavoidable with stock pads, aftermarket pads can cut that down
My dream car since I was 8 years old. My 18th birthday I bought one, silver with silver wheels. I live in North East Pa, and it is perfect for all these back roads (and dirt roads, it still is a rally car after all.) The was definitely set towards a specific group of people, between 18-30 I'd say, but with their Limited Edition, they tone it down and put in leather to accommodate someone "older" who doesn't want a giant wing that screams for attention....read morehide

- Fast, fun, good deal for all the racecar goodies you get (Brembro brakes, 0-60 in 4.9 seconds, etc.)
- Ride is pretty stiff. I would definitely test-drive this car before buying.
I sold my 350z for this car b/c I wanted a fast 4-door (having a baby). No, this is not your typical babymobile, but I am not your typical girl. This car fits the bill perfectly. It has decent space in the back seat, and a huge trunk (at least by my sports car standards). I wanted the short shifter and it's awesome -- yes, it's notchy and you have to put some effort into it, but the throws are short and precise and you never miss a shift.
Onto the fun part: it is fast, fearless, and fun. AWD is a blast. You can take corners with total confidence and get on the gas way earlier coming out of the apex than with a RWD (especially the tail-happy 350z). The spoiler is awesomely obnoxious. I tend to get comments only from true car buffs who know what a beast this car is (unlike my Speed Yellow Cayman, which everybody feels obligated to say something about). Let's put it this way: the STi and Cayman, although both are track/race cars, have completely opposite personalities. The STi is a masculine, noisy, ballsy beast. It is basically a bulldog. You have to grab it by the neck and show it who's boss. The Cayman is precise, almost eerily responsive, a balanced and poised car that almost anticipates what you want it to do. It is a work of art that you experience. I love my Cayman more (as I should, given it's twice as much), but the STi has a special place in my heart.
Cons: it is noisy and the ride is VERY stiff. I thought I knew stiff b/c of my 350z and Cayman but this is a whole new level. Be sure you want what is essentially a race car, and are willing to put up with all the ugly aspects of that as well. What is great suspension on the track is not so fun on highways with cracked joints....read morehide

- great fuel econ 16- 24.2 mpg.faster then a gt3 and 911. Upgrades are at a low price. Interior #1.
- envious poeple, engine is to quiet, people get mad when you smoke their 6-8-10-12 cyl. cars/suv's
This is a luxury rally car. The body is beyond any other car design out there poeple fix up there cars just to look like yours. Take porshe for example they put that wing on it just like Subaru had on for years. The seats do not need to be changed. The radio is all you need in the car. There is no wind noise. The turbo is a little quietter then what i like but you can change it for the spt cold air intake which makes the car even more luxurious turbo sound. The ride is smoothest ever. Its smoother ride then a Cadillac, BMW, lexus, Lincoln, porshe, volvo, audi, etc. I've driven long distant and would not trade it for anything unless its a subaru wrx sti 2015. The engine is smooth i cant tell you how many times i had to look at the rpm's to see if the car was on. Its so quiet i will most likely be getting the 3 inch borla exhast provided by subaru. Back sets are very comfortable for 5'11" 190 lbs. If the ride is to quiet for you do what everyone else that has one does; put a exhast and spt intake w/heat shield, but go through dealer its less then $1,000 anyone can pay that. A tiny to NO turbo lag depending on driving skills available anti-lag system....read morehide

- great fuel economy and tough as nails
- rough ride for long trips needs expensive tires to truly use the car to it potenal
I own a 05 sti and have 50k of mostly highway driving it is not uncommon for my mpg to reach as high as 28mpg for a tank of gas while crusing at 70mph. without expensive sticky tires the car's ture potenal is not met. at speeds over 130mph the car really needs the wing to keep it steady (i removed mine) have fun with your sti's and remember it's better then an evo....read morehide

- Eye-Catching, Quick
- Not enough upgrades offered by dealer
The most consistent compliment I have received for this car is on the interior. (2007) People love the blue/black seats and instrument panel. Just glad I got one before the 2008 comes out! Horrible!!

- Blistering acceleration, great handling, durable clutch, fade-resistent brakes, powerful engine
- looks - but who really cares about this anways?
This car is the perfect weekend enthusiasts car. While it is ungainly in appearance, it more than makes up for it with it's proven rally record and ability to handle just about anything on a public roadway. The car rides hard, has a very spartan interior, and is very noisy, but if that bothers you, you wouldn't be looking at this car in the first place. The real reason people buy this car is for the handling, the power, and the overall feel of the vehicle. While the Evolution 8 from Mitsubishi might have slightly better handling, its brakes fade much more under ferocious driving than the Subaru. The Subaru also has a better fit and finnish than the Mitsubishi, and just feels a little more grown up. Sure it's ugly, but the performance of this car for the money makes this car beautiful. I picked up my 2004 with low mileage for just over 20,000 USD....read morehide
