Have owned for 18 months ... first Subaru. Car is fun to drive. Great lane-changing and accident-avoidance nimbleness. Handles like a smaller car but has plenty of space inside. Don't understand people writing Cons about MPG. I drive aggressively around the city and fast on the highway and get 25-27 and 31-33 respectively with 5-speed manual. Maybe the automatic transmission is a dog. Considered buying Mazda 3 sport version (no AWD and too busy a dashboard) and 4-dr VW Rabbit (price premium)....read morehide

Like others, I drove several cars prior to purchasing the Impreza: Corolla (nice but boring and major body lean on turns), Civic (too loud and cheap), Mazda 3(harsh ride), Astra(weird and many blind spots), and Rabbit, which is a nice car, however I chose the Subaru. This car is a great combination of fun, decent gas mileage, safety, and Subaru's great reputation for reliability, and it's kind of cool that there is not an Impreza on every corner or at every red light. My Impreza has a good balanced suspension, which is soft enough so you don't feel every pebble on the road(like the Mazda), yet firm enough where the sporty feel is not comprimised. One of my main concerns was the gas milage of the Impreza, but I finally decided that the safety features and ratings far outweighed a few mpg....read morehide
