- Wonderfully balanced, comfortable, sticks to road on fast turns
Purchased As New
The power is just right for the size, great torque at low speeds - so in the grunt of city driving or slow freeway traffic, this car is a breeze to drive, a welcome relief.
The car handles very securely and predictably. I made some fast lane changes and there was no hesitation or body lean, the car just does what you ask it to do. This is my first AWD, and hadn't realized it is that stable while reacting quickly, this will be a big help in an emergency. The navigation interface from Tom Tom is less intuitive than my Garmin GPS but works fine. Satellite radio is a blessing, but having HD radio is already great in a metropolitan area.
Love the moonroof - unfortunately it does not come with Sport trim, so decided to get a Premium with Option 29. The alloy wheel package with 17" wheels is an option but a good one - the wheel looks cool. With the alloy wheels, the car can pass for a BMW in looks side on, front looks not as smooth.
Since I had a high affordability ceiling this time (my wife gave me permission to find the best car for my long commute), I test-drove a BMW 328xi and many other cars before selecting the Impreza. Didn't expect to be saying this, but the BMW was almost disappointing, stiff and heavy compared to the nimble, yet secure, Impreza! Had also test-driven the Acura TSX Sport Wagon, the Subaru Outback and the Mazda 3 and the Ford Focus before deciding.
The visibility is a big advantage as well. The side-view mirrors are extra large, helping with blind-spot tracking, and visibility overall is good. Having a hatchback also provides certainty on the bounds of the car, which is comforting while parking/ maneuvering.
The 8 weeks I waited after ordering felt long, but was worth it, and the buying experience was a peaceful one at the dealer in Livermore, CA - approach them via internet first, the sales person was excellent.
You cannot go wrong with the Impreza. The 2013 is probably coming on sale now, and I hope they don't change anything from the 2012.
