2012 Subaru Impreza
- Balance, Visibility, Red Dash Lights, Manual Trans, Interior Space
- No Sixth Gear... Picking Nits: Feel of Steering Wheel, Sun Visors
Purchased As New
This is a GREAT Car. Turned over 7500 miles today, in less than 4 months. Zero Problems. The handling BALANCE is fantastic. The VISIBILITY is superb. Performance is as it should be; this is not a rocket, but the 2.0 with the manual box can get out of its own way. The balanced delivered in this compact chassis is spot on.
In regards to the compact size, the interior space almost feels like a mid-size. This interior is vastly superior to the prior model and I liked it better than all competitors out there, except maybe the Cruze (no 5 door), and I tried them all. It took me a year to find my replacement for my '06 Vibe (great car, 142K, nothing but standard maintenance). Too many cars have poor visibility (Focus).
My calculated mileage so far is 34.1 in mixed driving, medium hills, and a medium/heavy foot. As stated above, I wish there was a sixth gear. The on board computer reads 35.7 on the 'B' odometer which has not been reset (delivery miles was 7). I ordered the car (silver), it took almost 12 weeks.
Some people have reviewed the Blue Tooth poorly, it has worked fine for me. The sound system is adequate, but I am not an audiophile, I prefer the sound from under the hood.
Picking nits: the plastic steering wheel did not feel right. Ordered and installed a Wheelskins leather cover, extremely pleased with that purchase, problem solved. The sun visors are the cheapest looking, feeling thing on the car and they do not "extend." Choices of colors are lacking. Black or white for the interior, but it seems like that almost all manufacturers are in that mode right now. Give me Gray or Light Brown with a pattern please. Subaru used to have some good choices of exterior colors and some great two-tone combos. I will say that the Silver looks good on this car, especially with 5 coats of Chemical Guys "Liquid Carnauba Instant Wax +"
The more I drive this car, the more I like it. There are a lot of little things (such as the red dash lights) that continue to please. The seating position feels right. Love the Balance and Love the Visibility. Pleased with the purchase and recommend it to all others looking for a compact car that makes few compromises. I cannot say that I am looking forward to winter, but I am wondering how it will go in the snow.
