- Car ride is SOOO Smooth!! Handles amazing!!!
I had a Mazda 3 and I loved it but it was bad in the snow, no matter what tires I put on it. I got the Legacy in time to have a bad couple storms, and it just drove amazing. I felt safe. I give this car two thumbs up!!!

- AWD, appearance, fit and finish, safety features
- fuel consumption
The Legacy is a great alternative to Hondas and Toyotas. It is also much more reliable than the Passat/Jetta. It may be a bit smaller than the aforementioned vehicles (minus the Jetta) but the trade off is something I willing to give up. It is for one much more more attractive than Accords/Camrys. but also just as reliable if not safer. I wish I had opted for the GT, but when my insurance bill arrives I'm glad I didn't. The standard 4 cylinder has plenty of zip and is by far a more entertaining car to drive than the Accord....read morehide

- handles very well, heated seats are great, moonroof is wonderful, awd a big plus
- you notice every little bump in the road, seating very uncomfortable-unnoticable on test drive
very little storage places to carry the little things you like to have in the car with you. Could use a standard arm rest/storage compartment

- Styling, AWD, ride, sport-shift mode, price, loaded with standard features
- Uncomfortable seating position for shorter drivers, dead pedal is too small
Overall, this is a very good car. It has a nice ride, handles well (not much lean or body roll, though not at sports sedan level), feels very solid on the road (even in inclement weather). The engine has decent power, though not overpowering. All controls are well within the driver's reach, and the dashboard is well laid out and easy to read. The Limited (mid-range version) is loaded with standard features, including power seats w/ lumbar support, heated seats (4-stage, as opposed to the 2-stage versions found on many cars in this range), heated mirrors, windshield wiper deicer, dual-zone automatic climate control, sunroof. The wood trim is tasteful and combined with the leather gives the car a more expensive feel. The sound system is good (6-CD changer in the Limited, single-CD in the Special Edition), and has an auxiliary jack for an mp3 player and is available with XM Radio (free for the first 3 months). I would recommend getting the center armrest extension, which is useful if you typically rest your right arm on the center console.
One feature I really like is the sport-shift mode. In addition to being enjoyable to use, it is quite useful in inclement weather (we recently had an ice storm), allowing the driver to use engine braking and not having to use the brakes that much. The shifter is positioned very well for those drivers who want to take advantage of this feature. This combined with the all-wheel drive, heated seats/mirrors, and windshield wiper deicer makes this a great car for those who live in colder climates. The seats heat up quickly and warm up faster than the HVAC, which also heats up pretty fast.
My qualm with the car (and it is a pretty significant one) is that the legroom for shorter drivers (I am 5'5") is very uncomfortable (very tight around the right knee due to the location of the tilt-wheel control underneath the steering wheel, with a lip that sticks out), especially when pressing the brake pedal). It is uncomfortable to the point where I am seriously considering trading it in even though Ive only had it for a month, since it has caused me leg pain, which I have never had with any other car. Unfortunately I did not notice this on either of the 24-hour test drives I took, probably because there are so many positives associated with this car. In talking to other owners of recent model Legacys who are taller, this does not seem to be an issue, but the car is not well-suited for someone of my height/leg length....read morehide

- Great handling, stability in slippery conditions, fun to drive, luxury accommodations
- Mediocre fuel economy, radio tuning strength
Im by any measure a car nut but a very practical one at that. Im an analyst by day, which also carries over my obsessive research abilities to anything I buy especially cars. I tend to research for over a year for my next purchase, looking through any online customer data (like this), consumer reports, and all the normal auto publications (Car&Driver, MotorTrend, etc.) I evaluate my needs/wants in terms of reliability (always extremely high on my list), cost of ownership, fun to drive, style, space requirements, safety, and luxury. After getting through all that and many test drives later I can safely say that this is one of the best purchases Ive ever made. The quality of materials is worthy of a car costing $10k more, as well as the style of the exterior and interior. I actually look forward to driving again, which is the way it should be. This car feels great in slippery conditions and also makes you feel great when you pass a(n) Acura/Lexus/Infinity and know that they paid way too much for their ride.
My only disappointments so far is my fuel economy of about 24mpg with 50% highway miles while also taking it very gingerly during the break-in period. I hope this will increase to 25-26 overall, but that may only come after the components get 10k+ miles on them. The other is the stereo which has great sound but not great in pulling in stations like my previous car. I guess Ill just have to listen to my iPod more, as it came with a standard AUX jack.
Overall, I highly recommend you BUY THIS CAR. You wont be disappointed....read morehide

- Sporty styling....AWD performance
- The only con I can think of is power window doesn't have one touch up.
Before purchasing my 2007 Subaru Legacy Limited Sedan....I researched and test drove many (about 7) different midsize sedans.
In my opinion this car is the overall highest value for sedans under $30,000! AWD, Automatic, alloys, sunroof, cd changer, heated leather, dual climate control, comfort, smooth power, stylish!...read morehide

- Ride, handling, value, fun to drive factor, 55-75mph acceleration, safe, plenty of standard features
- Back seat a little tight, no steering mounted controls.
The dealership was a Mazda/Subaru combo dealership. When I went in that day, I was pretty set on buying a Mazda 3 because I had researched it, test drove it and heard all about it (zoom, zoom). But then I look over and there's a Legacy a few feet away. What's this I ask myself? I do a walk around. Very nice. I sit down. Comfy. I scan the inside. Very nice also. I test drive it. Man, it was very sporty, quick and with great handling and ride. Because the Legacy was not as popular as the Mazda 3, I was able to haggle and get the Legacy Limited trim, a bigger car with more power, for LESS than a fully equipped Mazda. My previous car was the Accord EX. The Subaru is way more fun to drive and has me looking forward to my commute, unlike the Accord. I sometimes take the back roads just for more twists and curves. Plus, AWD is awesome on snowy roads! Never experienced that before. Others wrote rear visibility is lacking, but I have no problem (maybe because I am over 6ft). I love the car. I also love that there aren't that many out there with me, unlike the Camry. If you want more punch off the line, go for the GT, but the base 4-cyl. has a good amount of giddy up itself. Fuel economy for me is about 28mpg as I'm mostly on the highway. That reminds me. The highway passing acceleration, between 55 and 75mph, is effortless. On windy roads and on ramps, the low center of gravity boxer engine really does keep the car hugging the road as it twists and turns. So far, no complaints with this car. Radio, controls, heat and A/C are all great so far. Another thing is Subaru service was and still is top notch and totally professional. Finally, it kind of makes you feel like part of a club with Subaru because there's not as many of them out there....read morehide
