I previously drove a 09 Legacy which I was very pleased with. Fuel economy is about the same despite the CVT transmission and higher claims in the 2012 2.5. I drive about equal city/highway miles and get an average of 20.7mpg using regular unleaded. In all the MPG we expect from an AWD car. The 2012 does have a larger fuel tank than the 09. Inside and out the 2012 Legacy 2.5 Limited is a sharp looking car. Driving the car you can notice the size and weight difference when compared to the 09 model. Still there's minimal roll when powering through a corner. Despite feeling a bit chunkier to drive than the smaller 09 model it's handling is firm and precise. Subaru's excellent AWD makes severe weather a non-issue. I expected the CVT transmission to operate smoother while shifting. This was always my biggest complaint with the automatic transmission of the 09. Also the responsiveness can be better. There seems to be a bit of a delay between pressing the gas pedal and the power getting to the wheels. Once your moving the acceleration is improved compared to the 2009. My only real complaint are the shallow console cup holders.
